Commercial Counsel

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a highly motivated and proactive Counsel for the Legal Department

• Commercial Transactions:
  
  
  
  • Offer legal advice and counsel to a variety of business teams, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws related to commercial transactions
  • Draft and negotiate commercial transactions with vendors
  • Manage disputes with vendors
  
  
  
  

• Litigation:
  
  
  
  • Manage all facets of litigation and disputes, which include employment, consumer, contractual, commercial, or other kinds of legal disputes
  • Conduct internal investigations, support discovery efforts, draft and review discovery requests/responses, pleadings, and briefs, direct litigation strategy, and negotiate settlements
  • Identify legal risks and mitigate them by designing and implementing controls
  
  
  
  

• Miscellaneous Items:
  
  
  
  • Undertake any (assigned) overflow work from the General Counsel
  
  
  
  

• Bachelor's and juris doctor degrees, in addition to being admitted to the Michigan Bar
• 2-5 years of experience as an attorney
  
  
  
  • Some in-house experience, preferred
  
  
  
  
• Proficiency in Microsoft programs, such as Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
• Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
• Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Strict attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness in one's work
• Ability to provide prompt responsiveness to internal client requests, with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and changing business priorities
• Ability to understand and consider business objectives in a legal function
• Deadline-driven nature
• Sound judgment and decision-making skills
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
• Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record
