Position Purpose

The CAD/GIS Support Technician will provide advanced technical support and strategic oversight for CAD and GIS software platforms across the organization. This role is essential in maintaining software standards, managing licensing, and ensuring the effective use of technical tools such as Autodesk, ESRI, Bentley, and related add-ons. The technician will also lead training initiatives and stay connected with industry trends to support continuous improvement.

Essential Functions



  • Provide escalated support for technical software platforms including Autodesk, ESRI, Bentley, and associated add-ons.
  • Collaborate with the Information Technology (IT) team to resolve complex software issues.
  • Manage software licensing and renewals related to the CAD and GIS platforms.
  • Research and test new software versions and tools to evaluate readiness for deployment.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and sessions for CAD/GIS users and new hires.
  • Engage with local and national user groups to stay informed on industry best practices and innovations.
  • Oversee and enforce CAD standards across the organization.
  • Lead and facilitate CAD Standards Meetings to ensure alignment and adoption.


Responsibilities



  • Maintain documentation of CAD/GIS standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate with IT and department leads to implement software updates and patches.
  • Track and report on software usage and licensing metrics.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for CAD/GIS tools and workflows.
  • Provide onboarding support and structured training for new technical staff.


Qualifications



  • Minimum 5 years of experience using and supporting CAD/GIS platforms in a professional setting.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk, ESRI, Bentley, or related software.
  • Desire to be a continual learner. Seeking to learn the platforms with less experience.
  • Strong understanding of CAD/GIS standards and implementation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and training facilitation skills.


Preferences:



  • Prior experience in a support or systems administration role.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation tools for CAD/GIS environments.
  • Active participation in professional CAD/GIS communities.
  • Experience managing software licensing and vendor relationships.


Competencies/Knowledge:



  • Deep understanding of CAD/GIS software ecosystems and support methodologies.
  • Ability to evaluate and implement technical standards and best practices.


Skills/Abilities:



  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving in technical environments.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.


Relationships



  • The CAD/GIS Support Technician reports to the IT leadership team and collaborates closely with technical staff, project managers, and external vendors.


Hours and Travel



  • This position is full-time and may require occasional travel to other office locations for training or support purposes.
