As the Research Administrator (Award Specialist, International), you'll be a vital part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that supports faculty across Campus schools, the School of Medicine, and the School of Nursing in managing international and domestic research awards. This role supports the International Research Administration Support Resource (IRASR) and serves as a key resource to the university community for award processing requirements-ensuring quick and smooth award setup for sponsored projects.

You'll help ensure compliance and coordination across Duke's research ecosystem, working closely with the Office of Research Administration (ORA) and the Office of Research Support (ORS) to support groundbreaking research across the globe.

What You'll Do:

Award Management (50%)





    • Initiate and process international and domestic awards efficiently and accurately.
    • Coordinate with ORA, ORS, and departments to gather and review award documentation.
    • Set up awards in the Sponsored Projects System and manage fund code structures.
    • Prepare transmittal forms for Treasury Billing Services and liaise on award setup issues.
    • Communicate complex sponsor terms and conditions to PIs and Grant Managers.
    • Handle subcontracts, financial account requests, and award modifications.





Subcontract Oversight (50%)





    • Review subrecipient documentation and follow up with departments and PIs.
    • Draft and send subcontract packets using ORA and ORS systems.
    • Monitor subrecipient performance and recommend contract modifications.

Minimum Education and Background Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) and three years of experience in research administration or a related field.
  • RACC certification or must obtain a Certificate of Research Administration within one year of employment.
  • Must be a notary public or willing to obtain a license when requested.
  • Demonstrated experience or strong interest in international research administration.



Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $59,829.00 to USD $96,900.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
