Job Description
Lead an R&D team to execute projects in new products and/or processes aligned to customer and business needs. Using business and technical knowledge, connects to all phases of product development and support, from concept to close, and is a key cross-functional and customer liaison. Leadership may include areas such as: research, applications development, materials enhancements and/or cost-out initiatives. This role typically has in-depth expertise in more than one technical work area. The impact of this role is transitioning from short- to mid-term impacts. Is responsible for meeting targets typically against monthly plans. Resolves issues which can include varied, non-routine circumstances and may require more sophisticated analytical/problem solving techniques to identify causes.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  • Lead a team in working across the business to design and develop product, process, and/or other project activities to produce value for customers. Facilitate prioritization and schedules.
  • Understand market/customer needs, address market/customer challenges, ensuring proper data gathering, analysis and communication.
  • Manage the use of existing products and when to offer innovative products that run efficiently in our facilities. Own team project portfolio, aligning prioritization to produce value for customers.
  • Leverage standard process execution across technical specifications, design of experiments, statistical data analysis, stage gate, best practice sharing.
  • Ensure team engagement in maintaining a knowledge database.
  • Understand key business and technical metrics and translate relevance to the team.
  • Provide recommendations for consideration, as applicable, for capital projects and ensure team participation.
  • Ensure team creation of technical and/or other core documentation.
  • Monitor emerging technology and materials and disseminate such information appropriately.
  • Partner in developing business cases for product and/or technology research.
  • Support planning, evaluating, recommending, designing, developing and implementing new and/or enhanced core materials, products and/or processes for an assigned unit, market or technology.
  • Challenge the status quo to uncover opportunities that drive collaboration across functions, accountability and growth.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to troubleshoot complex operations process challenges and communicate with one shared common goal
  • Support planning, evaluating, recommending, designing, developing and implementing new and/or enhanced core materials, products and/or processes for an assigned unit, market or technology.
  • Collaborate with other R&D leaders in leveraging technology applications across teams.
  • Staff resource planning
  • In partnership with Director, develop and maintain a budget.
  • Learn and/or build best practices that drive innovation in solutions provided.

WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU

  • Bachelor's degree required. Chem. E., Mat Sci., Polymer Sci. or other related area preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical area, with at least 3 years in R&D strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership as a team or project-lead showing professional skills and talent development.
  • Demonstrated success with results in a matrix-based manufacturing organization required.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in multiple technologies and/or markets.
