The Opportunity

The Department of Physical Sciences of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty positionin the field of space scienceand/or aerospace materials to begin in Fall 2026. The successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with strong recordin building instrumentation for space physics research or demonstrated experience in space-based material science (e.g., nano -or quantum materials, radiation shielding) with application to space technologies.

The department has a strong history of excellence in the fields of space and atmospheric physics, space engineering applications, instrumentation, and controls. This position will be filled by an individual with preference for experimental expertise and will complement our current research efforts. Candidates with a strong commitment to both research and teaching excellence are encouraged to apply. The Physics Sciences Department houses ERAU's Center for Space and Atmospheric Research, over forty faculty and more than 350 students in our three B.S. programs (Engineering Physics, Space Physics, and Astronomy & Astrophysics) and two graduate programs (MS and PhD in Engineering Physics).

The Physical Sciences (PS) Department has over forty faculty and more than 350 students in our three B.S. programs (Engineering Physics, Space Physics, and Astronomy & Astrophysics) and two graduate programs (MS and PhD in Engineering Physics).Many faculty of the PS department are also members of the Center for Space and Atmospheric Research (CSAR), now a universitylevel Center of Excellence, committed in tackling critical projects in focused areas in national space research/technology agenda.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications

Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or a closely-related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated research deliverablesin i) spacecraft and/or space science related instrumentation, or ii) physics of space related material science, e.g., nano/quantum materials/or radiation shielding, and similar areas with applications to space science and space technology.
