What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Position Function: Under supervision, perform duties related to carpentry complying with appropriate regulations and codes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Construct and/or remodel University facilities.

Clean, renovate, and renew, resilient, wood, and hard floor surface finishes, i.e., dust mop, sweep, wet mop, spot mop, scrub, polish and spray buff, strip, seal, wax, etc.

Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds constantly. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish colors and perceive depth. Task requires use of saws, jointer, shaper, planer, drill press, sander, drill, router, air-nailers and staplers, hand and power tools, filter mask, and hand, ear, and eye protection, etc. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, etc. Task requires the mental ability to analyze situations, read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information, and receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information.

2. Install and/or repair new and existing fixtures of University facilities.

Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds constantly. 3. Build and install cabinets, casework, furniture, counters, and plastic laminate tops.

Requires the physical ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds constantly. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish colors and perceive depth. 4. Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials as required using hand and/or power tools, sketch and/or estimate jobs and/or materials as required.

5. Apply construction materials to floors, walls, ceilings and/or roofs of University buildings and facilities as required.

6. Fit, install and/or service doors, windows, glass, exit devices, door closures, automatic door openers, electrical and conventional lock sets and/or hardware as required.

7. Construct concrete forms; place and finish concrete as required.

8. Move and erect manual and power ladders, scaffolds, and other lift platforms as required.

9. Requires the physical ability to sit, stand, talk, hear, and exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Task requires the visual ability to perceive depth. 10. Acquire and maintain knowledge of various job related chemicals, environmental concerns, building codes, and new technology as required. Requires the physical ability to talk, hear, and exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Task requires visual ability to read written materials. Task requires the mental ability to analyze situations, read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information, and receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information.

11. Clean and maintain department equipment and tools as required; clean and organize shop area as required; clean job site as necessary; report all damaged and missing equipment or tools to the Supervisor.

12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

May require any or all of the above-mentioned abilities.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

1.Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in Carpentry as approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship Training or four (4) years of verified proof of Carpentry experience or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired as determined by Ball State University. 2.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies and procedures, communications, and perform mathematical calculations. 3.Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy. 4.Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty. 5.You must be 18 years or older.

Preferred Qualifications: Vocational school training

1. Two years' experience in commercial and/or institutional door hardware, fixtures, and equipment. 2. Experience in cabinetry, mill work, and furniture assembly.
