Wunderlich-Malac's Bay Area, CA Operations team is looking for a mobile entry-level to 4-year field engineer interested in quick advancement as a controls engineer in the Data Center and Semi-Conductor industry sector. This position is responsible for electrical and controls engineering projects involving electrical and instrumentation, coordination with electrical subcontractors, PLC/SCADA/HMI programming, commissioning support and start-up assistance.

Once the 2 to 4 year field assignment is complete this person would be based in our Bay Area, CA or Boise, ID office.

Major Responsibilities



  • BMS Installation & Wiring QA/QC Verification including control panels and associated instruments (Level 2). Ensure devices and/or equipment, associated with the control system, have been installed and wired per the manufacturer's requirements as well as the submitted and approved package shop drawings and documentation
  • "Point-to-Point" testing to ensure field devices, associated with the control system, have been installed per the submitted and approved system shop drawings and documentation. (Level 3) This process also verifies the data to and from field devices is properly configured in the BMS/EPMS control system and includes data that may be read via network integration
  • Functional Performance Testing (FPT) to ensure the control system and field devices operate as defined by the relevant BMS design (Level 4) Verify proper execution of control sequences, alert configuration, alert activation, trend displays, trend configurations, control system failures, and overall verification of the system graphics
  • Support System Level Testing to ensure the control system and field devices functionally perform as one system (Level 5). Verify proper execution of control sequences with all relevant systems operating to achieve a common goal. During this testing, the SCADA is used to navigate the different areas and views of the facility, alerts are activated, trend displays are monitored, and system failure scenarios are examined


Minimum Requirements

Education BS degree from accredited university. BS Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Eligibility Ability to work in the US without sponsorship. Must have a valid driver's license.

Experience New Graduate or 0-4 years of field experience.



  • Understanding of or exposure to field instrumentation, hardware panels and low voltage controls design is preferred
  • Understanding of control systems, components, PLC programming, SCADA programming and their applications is preferred


Field Work & Travel 100% work site location. Standard Monday-Friday working hours with occasional weekend requirements. Multiple extended-duration assignments at U.S.-based sites, with permitted weekend travel each month to your home location. A monthly stipend is provided to cover local housing, meals, and incidentals for up to one year per site. Monthly airfare is covered according to project expense policy.

  • Physical Demands

    • Ability to stand and move around job sites for up to 8-12 hours per shift
    • Ability to frequently climb up and down stairs and ladders
    • Ability to maintain balance and stability while performing tasks at heights
    • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and move objects up to 40 pounds as required
    • Ability to hear and communicate with clear speech in industrial environments
    • Ability to drive vehicles and operate simple machinery, with proper training, such as lifts
    • Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, crouching, or crawling in and around machinery and production equipment as required during project commissioning and startup activities
    • Manual dexterity is sufficient to operate tools, instruments, or computer equipment
    • The ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and steel-toed boots
    • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination required for inspection, troubleshooting, and detailed technical work


  • Working Environment

    • Working around construction and industrial production equipment and personnel
    • Exposure to manufacturing environments with moderate to high noise levels, temperature fluctuations, moving mechanical parts, and industrial chemicals
    • Electrical/Instrumentation, device checkout and troubleshooting, including voltage testing, troubleshooting equipment on a ladder, and light electrical assembly (e.g., signal wiring in control panels/instruments)
    • Typical Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) Required: Safety Glasses, Steel Toed shoes, hearing protection, and electrical safety PPE. Employees must comply with customer specific requirements and PPE.
