Pantheon Data (a Kenific Holding company) is a private, small business based in the Washington, DC, area. Pantheon Data was founded in 2011, initially providing acquisition and supply chain management services to the US Coast Guard. Our service offerings have grown in the past ten years, including infrastructure resiliency, contact center operations, information technology, software engineering, program management, strategic communications, engineering, and cybersecurity. We have also grown our customer base to include commercial clients. The company has used this experience to expand our service offerings to other agencies within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Defense (DoD), and other Federal Civilian Agencies.

Position Overview

Pantheon Data has a SME Graph/Data Engineer requirement to support development and deployment of our CB Suite product. This roll reports to the Principal Cloud & ML Ops Engineer, and will support CB Suite product development.

The SME Graph Database Engineer to build and lead our semantic infrastructure capability for knowledge domain applications. We seek a technical leader who can establish graph-based architecture as a core competency, grow a team around it, and champion the graph approach across the organization. You will own the integration of open-source graph database infrastructure into our growing platform, serving as the semantic backbone for cross-domain knowledge management. More importantly, you will shape how Pantheon thinks about and implements knowledge graphs, establishing standards, mentoring engineers, and building the foundation for scalable semantic systems.

Responsibilities

Capability Building & Leadership




  • Establish and grow Pantheon's graph database engineering capability from the ground up.



  • Define technical standards, best practices, and architectural patterns for semantic infrastructure.



  • Mentor and develop engineers in graph-based thinking and W3C semantic web standards.



  • Lead implementation teams on graph database projects, providing technical direction and code review.



  • Advocate for semantic approaches in architecture reviews and technical decision-making.



  • Participate in hiring and building the graph engineering team as the capability grows.



  • Own the technical roadmap for semantic infrastructure across products.




Architecture & Implementation




  • Evaluate, select, and deploy open-source graph database infrastructure (Apache Jena/Fuseki, Oxigraph, Blazegraph, or equivalent).



  • Design triple store architecture.



  • Architect ingestion pipelines for ontologies and instance data at scale.



  • Implement SPARQL endpoints and integrate SHACL validation into data pipelines.



  • Design integration patterns between graph layer and LLM services for natural language to SPARQL translation.



  • Architect polyglot persistence strategies when SQL/graph hybrid approaches are required.




Operations & Performance




  • Establish operational excellence for graph infrastructure: monitoring, backup, recovery, replication.



  • Own query performance optimization strategies: rewriting, caching, materialized views, indexing.



  • Design and implement ontology versioning and migration frameworks.



  • Manage security architecture: access control, audit logging, sensitive data handling.



  • Support domain onboarding as new frameworks are added to the graph.




Required Skills and Experience



  • 10+ years' experience with graph database development and deployment for large-scale enterprise data projects Including GSQL, Entity relationship mapping, schema development, temporal data management, ontology design, hybrid graph/relational data systems, and query automation.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams or building engineering capabilities.
  • Track record of production deployments with graph databases at scale.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions.
  • Ability to use Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint folder access for configuration, and data management processes.
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Visio and Power-Point.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively remotely in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work.


Preferred Skills and Experience



  • Experience working in a government environment.
  • Experience with Semantic Web, graph optimization, and complex data domains.
  • Experience with delivering and maintaining baselines across multiple networks and classifications levels.

Bachelor's degree

Clearance Requirements

U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Work Location: United States - Remote

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
