The Office of Information Technology (OIT) Application Development group is looking to hire an enthusiastic, early-career application and software developer to join the Research Administrative Services (RAS) Team.
Research Administrative Services work is central to the University's $1+ billion research enterprise, delivering and maintaining mission-critical custom and vendor-managed solutions. We are looking for early career professionals who are interested in application and software development. We work in a variety of technologies and tools, so the specific languages in which you are expert is less important than your willingness to become expert in one or more of the tools in our portfolio.
Equally important is a commitment to software development best practices, including building and implementing effective CI/CD pipelines, using Test Driven Development, pairing and ensemble programming, and monitoring and observability.
Key Responsibilities: * Development: Develop, test, and deploy scalable and maintainable applications. Primary responsibilities will focus on delivering enhancements requested by business for existing applications. * Documentation and Maintenance: Add to team-level internal and external program documentation. Monitor and maintain production applications and systems. Evaluate and follow through on issues and problems until resolved or escalated. * Champion Accessibility: Ensure WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards are being met as enhancements are released. * System Integration: Collaborate with team members to integrate frontend and backend systems, and ensure seamless communication between different components. Code Quality & Best Practices: Write clean, reusable, and efficient code while following coding standards, practices, and guidelines. * Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with product managers, analysts, and business partners to deliver high-quality features and improvements. * Debugging & Performance Tuning: Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and work with the team to optimize performance and resolve issues. * DevOps and Deployment: Assist with the deployment of applications, monitoring, and troubleshooting issues in production environments. Additional opportunities may include moving existing applications to cloud hosted solutions. * On-Call monitoring: Available to be on-call in a rotation with other team members to provide technical support as needed.

Required Qualifications: * BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years. * Demonstrated experience and proficiency with object oriented languages such as Java, Ruby, C#, javascript, or python * Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues, debug, and resolve complex technical problems.
Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field * Database Management: Experience in SQL and working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL). * Version Control: Experience with Git and GitHub/GitLab workflows. * Agile Methodology: Experience working in an agile environment, particularly with SAFe. Familiarity with Scrum or Kanban is also helpful. * Experience updating applications to meet accessibility requirements. * Experience working with vendors and ensuring development best practices. * CI/CD: Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment pipelines (Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab CI). * Interest or experience with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS) * Security Best Practices: Knowledge of web application security best practices and strategies for securing APIs and user data. * Previous experience in Higher Education or a University organization.
Pay and Benefits
