The BNSF Railway Law and Claims Department provides expert in-house counsel and collaborates with outside counsel to ensure the railroad operates safely and meets all legal and contractual obligations. Our licensed attorneys and legal professionals are dedicated to upholding the highest legal compliance standards. Additionally, our specialized Claims team promotes safety, investigates incidents, and resolves them ethically.

This is a full-timeposition located in Fort Worth, TX. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. Our leaders also foster a culture where work life balance, which requires flexibility for when life happens, is important and respected.

Travel in extreme emergencies to support the field claims response team. Averages less than 5%.

Shifts/Hours are regular business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM), Monday-Friday. In extreme emergencies, night and/or weekend work may be required to support field claims response team.

This position works closely with the Field Claims Team, along with personnel within the Law Department with claims litigation and is responsible for the processing of new litigated and non-litigated claims into the claims systems with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.On an as needed basis, this position will support all levels of the Law and Claims Department team.

Key responsibilities may include:

Process large amounts of information in various technical software systems within the Claims Department.


Work
with high volume of confidential data requiring accurate handling with keen eye for detail.


Analyze
and evaluate newly reported personal injury claims and litigation including asbestos, occupational claims and other non-occupational claim matters.


Enter
claim drafts in a timely and accurate fashion to ensure no errors in processing.


Operate
with financial information such as estimates and payment information.


Provide
direct support to the Sarbanes Oxley requirements within the department.


Communicate
with external partners such as the RRB, medical insurance companies, medical providers, law firms and other claim related entities.


Determine
settlement payments, expense payments, recovery/collection payments received and enter accordingly.


Process
vendor invoices for A/P in SAP for timely payment.


Read
and evaluate court documents for facts associated with claims and inputting data in the claims database.


Timely handling
, including negotiation, of bills received through the Injury Care Billing process.


Communicate
enrollment information for opt-out employees to group medical third-party administrators.


Update
actions requested during Monthly Reviews conducted by the Field team.


Assign
appropriate codes for claims, payments and dispositions.


Hold
regular meetings with representatives from Medical and Environmental Health and Safety Departments to ensure timely sharing of pertinent information relating to the accurate reporting and processing of claims.


Provide
timely responses to emails and phone calls from customer base.


Daily work

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in BNSF or in a Transportation-related field (Railroad claims, railroad, insurance, legal, investigative) or a combination thereof.

  • Knowledge of general claims and law terminology.

  • Data input experience in an environment where a high degree of accuracy was required.
