JOB DESCRIPTION Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Controls Engineer will support the maintenance department by designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automation and control systems. Key responsibilities include:
Troubleshoot equipment issues, including PLC ladder logic and data handling functions in ControlLogix processors. Maintain PLC documentation received from equipment suppliers and manage an archive of PLC programs and machine control drawings, both electronically and on paper, across the facility. Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve automated equipment, including devices, I/O, instruments, and all components associated with automated processes to meet production and safety goals. Support various I/O devices connected to PLCs, including HMIs, scanners, remote I/O, sensors, relays, solenoids, servo drives, etc., and assist maintenance personnel in troubleshooting pneumatic circuits. Drive improvements in equipment uptime and contribute to overall plant reliability and maintenance initiatives. Schedule and perform backups of all electronic machine control and robotic programs, and develop and maintain Preventive Maintenance Programs. Diagnose and resolve issues with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical and electronic systems. Apply knowledge of electronics and instrumentation principles to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment to operation efficiently. Implement and maintain data collection systems from plant floor processing equipment. Identify and implement error-proofing measures throughout production processes. Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary plant team to determine and implement continuous improvement strategies. Assess and plan for process impacts resulting from engineering and product launch changes. Participate in 8D or other root-cause problem-solving methodologies to address abnormalities and prevent recurrence. Contribute to equipment purchase specifications, including reviewing and providing feedback on equipment control drawings prior to build approval.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum 5-6 years of experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs in a manufacturing environment. Proficiency with Allen-Bradley RSLogix 5000, ControlLogix, and PanelView development software is required. Experience with FANUC and ABB robotic systems. Experience with Siemens and/or Mitsubishi PLCs is a plus.
