Manages ministry-wide functions of the Risk, Claims & Litigation (RCL) team in Mercy's Legal Department. The RCL team is led by the Associate Counsel for RCL in concert with the Executive Director for Litigation and the Chief Litigation Officer. The position reports directly to a Director of RCL, but duties and responsibilities may be assigned by any leader on the team.

This is a Ministry position that includes responsibilities throughout the various communities within the Mercy Ministry. The RCL manager partners with others in the Legal Department and closely with the Quality, Patient Safety, Compliance Departments, and other caregivers to protect Mercy's interest. The RCL team manages potentially compensable events (PCE's), general and healthcare professional liability, and other claims and litigation as assigned that include investigation, evaluation, reserving, and resolution. The Risk/Claim Manager applies industry best practices in risk, claims, and litigation management to minimize expense and indemnity expenditures.

They work autonomously within a demonstrated settlement authority level and collaborate with other leaders on the RCL team on matters that require a higher authority level. The position develops and communicates trends and education regarding risk, claims, and litigation to Mercy leaders and stakeholders to increase safety and risk awareness. It is responsible for data integrity and sustainability of Mercy's systems that support events, claim, and litigation management. The role is data driven and assumes additional responsibilities as assigned by RCL leaders in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Standards. Position Details:

Education: Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience.
Experience: 3yearsin medical malpractice claims management, healthcare risk management, litigation management, or insurance claims management.

- Proficient with Microsoft 365,ability to use software applicationsand databases

- Ability to travel throughout the Mercy ministry to attend meetings, mediations, trials as assigned

PREFERRED

Work Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5yrs experience handling medical malpractice litigation as a paralegal or defense counsel, nurse, or other clinical competence, claims manager in a health care field or organization.

Education: Bachelor's degree in healthcare field, health care risk management, or law degree.

Professional Designations/Certifications: CPHRM, ARM, CPCU.
