Salary: The budgeted salary range for the position is $500,000 to $650,000. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.

About the Division of Cardiology
The UIC Division of Cardiology is nationally recognized for excellence in the evaluation and management of cardiovascular disease. The Division strives to be a leading translational research program by leveraging its extensive talents in basic and clinical sciences to benefit patients. Through this approach, patients receive the most advanced care, and trainees develop the skills necessary to shape the future of medicine-grounded in superior science and a commitment to paramount patient care. The division delivers more than 24,000 outpatient visits and performs approximately 9,000 echocardiograms annually, while offering a full spectrum of ambulatory and inpatient cardiovascular services.

The Division features:
Comprehensive outpatient and advanced diagnostic services, including lipid profiling, cardiac imaging, and stress testing.
Specialized centers such as the Atrial Fibrillation Center, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure Program, Cardiovascular MRI Lab, and Electrophysiology Services.
A strong educational footprint with four fellowship programs and extensive training for medical students, residents, and fellows.
A robust research environment, including the Center for Regenerative Medicine in Cardiology and numerous NIH-funded programs in atrial fibrillation, stem cell biology, myocardial regeneration, and cardiovascular genetics.
A mission grounded in excellence across clinical care, medical education, and translational cardiovascular research.

Position Summary

The Division Chief will provide strategic, academic, and operational leadership for all activities within the Division of Cardiology, ensuring alignment with the missions of the Department of Medicine, College of Medicine, and UI Health. The successful candidate will be an accomplished leader with a national reputation in cardiology, demonstrated excellence in clinical practice, a strong record of research or scholarly activity, and a commitment to advancing education and mentoring.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Strategy
  • Develop and execute a vision for the Division that advances clinical growth, research innovation, and academic excellence.
  • Promote an inclusive, collaborative culture that supports faculty development and programmatic advancement.
  • Clinical Excellence
  • Oversee and actively participate in the delivery of high quality cardiovascular care across all service lines.
  • Strengthen existing clinical programs and identify opportunities for new or expanded services.
  • Research Advancement
  • Maintain an established research program with evidence of scholarly productivity.
  • Support and grow federally funded and industry-supported research initiatives.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaborations across campus and with UI Health partners.
  • Education & Training
  • Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows across the academic mission.
  • Provide leadership for cardiology fellowship programs and educational initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with ACGME standards and promote a strong learning environment.
  • Administrative & Financial Oversight
  • Manage divisional finances, resource allocation, and workforce planning.
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of clinical and research operations.


  • Minimum Qualifications

    • MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
    • Board certification in Cardiovascular Disease.
    • Qualification for appointment in the tenure system at the Associate Professor or Professor level within the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
    • Evidence of successful leadership within an academic medical center.
    • Track record of securing external research funding.
    • Experience managing large, multidisciplinary clinical programs.
    • Distinguished record of clinical excellence, scholarly productivity, and demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentorship.
    • Eligible for a State of Illinois Medical License, State of Illinois Controlled Substance License, DEA License, and BLS Certification.
    • Eligible for medical staff privileges at UI Health
