Hiring Range
The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $57,900 - $72,300/yr.

About the Job
The Retail Stores Supervisor will assist the Retail Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Bobcat Snack Stop, Summits Marketplace, and other concepts within the Retail portfolio. This includes but is not limited to; employee training, supervision and leadership, customer service support, food safety and sanitation, inventory management, cost controls, purchasing, food/beverage material storage, maintenance and repair of service/production equipment and facilities, service systems, and quality control. The incumbent will have the skills necessary to support the concept locations and ensure the highest quality of product and service. Incumbent will also provide department-wide support for AFI (Auxiliaries Fiscal Innovation) services for large campus events or whenever needed. Working under strict deadlines and budgetary constraints, all members of leadership are required to work together to ensure the operation's success. All supervisors serve as key members of management and are responsible for all operations assigned. Position requires supervision of a various retail locations on campus and transport of goods from one location to another with in a timely manner with the use of University vehicles such as golf carts, trucks, vans, box trucks, etc. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES SUPERVISION, ADMINISTRATION & CUSTOMER SERVICE
Closely supervise, coach, motivate & effectively direct the student and staff workforce. Tasks include, but are not limited to: assigning work; training & development; performance management (including completing annual performance evaluations); ensuring that policies and guidelines are followed; resolving complaints and grievances; scheduling writing within the budgeted allotment; assisting with hiring decisions; time record tracking; and timecard approval. Organize and implement training for new staff and students in accordance with operational guidelines. Ensure that the standards of customer service are upheld by all staff and students. Responsible for the implementation of personnel policies & procedures. Ensure standards for policies and procedures are being upheld. Daily duties require floating from retail locations on campus to provide support, transport of good in emergencies, etc. which will require the use of University vehicles such as golf carts, vans, trucks and box trucks.
FOOD SAFETY & SANITATION
Ensure staff and students are consistently following food safety standards at all times. Oversee completion of daily, weekly, and impromptu health inspections. Possess a full understanding of food safety procedures and act as backup in implementing them, such as daily temperature records, as necessary. Respond with urgency to food safety complaints as they arise. Participate and lead safety trainings for all Staff and student employees.
STORE EXPERTISE AND STRATEGIC PLANNING
Participate in strategic conversations regarding the future of retail/resale services offered at UC Merced. Liaison with vendors to ensure compliance with brand standards, that we are taking advantage of promotional opportunities that can benefit our students, and that we are tapped into the best training resources and equipment possible. Routinely attend trainings to sharpen all skills related to retail services, inventory management, quality control, and upcoming trends. Ensure that all Store Staff and student employees are well-trained to understand their products and deliver excellent guest service within the store environment.
SALES, POLICY AND TRAINING
Supervising operations by assuring that service & product offerings meet needs and cost efficiency. Responsible for the adherence to campus and departmental accounting and cash handling policies and procedures. Responsible for the adherence to policy & goals of purchasing. Assist in long-range strategic and /or operational planning and goal setting through comprehensive operational and financial analysis of existing contract operations and the identification and analysis of new business opportunities. Assist in ensuring the payment transactions are accurate. Ensure all cashiering staff are trained in the appropriate cash handling policies and practices. Assist with the reporting of cash for all revenue centers and the reconciliation of cashier/revenue center reports and deposits. Participate in the training and guidance of all Staff and student employees in proper cashiering protocol to ensure minimal errors and excellent guest services at all times.

Qualifications
EDUCATION and REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in related area. 2 years of related experience or 6 years of related, experience and education in lieu of degree. Must be ServSafe certified within 90 days of employment (costs covered). Driver's license required.
CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Retail operations experience: Working knowledge of ordering, receiving, pricing strategy, marketing, merchandising, loss prevention, and inventory management. University supervisory experience or management experience.(Preferred) Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Ability to perform basic mathematical equations. Ability to successfully communicate in English - read, write and follow oral and written instructions. Accuracy in handling money; knowledge of handling checks and credit cards. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people. Experience leading teams. Prior cashiering experience. Bilingual in Spanish (Preferred) - Knowledge of safety and sanitation in food service regulations.
