This is a paid internship, range of $22/hr - $39/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW Sound Transit's Capital Delivery Department oversees all Sound Transit capital projects throughout the Puget Sound region - Link, Sounder, ST Express, and Tacoma Link. The Capital Project Management Coordinator intern will have an opportunity to be a part of the team that oversees the delivery of our State of Good Repair program and learn how a large regional transit system is managed. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification; they are only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Job duties:
- Reviews and provides support and coordination on project-related documentation, and other project-related materials; and manages specific project related tasks as directed.
- Collects, reviews, interprets, and enters staff review comments into required spreadsheets and SharePoint sites. Establishes and maintains permanent hardcopy files and soft (SharePoint) copies of project files.
- Supports management of assigned small-scale projects under the direction of a Project Manager, including coordinating stakeholders, tracking scope, schedule, and budget status, and facilitating issue resolution to help advance the project through planning, design, and closeout.
- Verifies submittals including monthly reporting; monitors schedules; participates in the development of project feasibility studies, site selection, and technical documentation; and coordinates project relevant public outreach efforts.
- Provides support during final design phase of larger projects; coordinates assigned tasks and comments during design; participates in design development, review, and project meetings; assists with permit procurement and submittal; assists with right-of-way needs as directed including coordinating with consultant to obtain legal descriptions, parcel exhibits, and other documentation needed to acquire property.
- Provides support during the construction phase on larger projects; coordinates with construction management and Agency procurement teams regarding bid process and contract negotiations/requirements for construction firm selection; creates procedural checklists; and supports the closing out of construction contracts.
- Coordinates project elements with a variety of interested parties including Agency staff from various lines of business and departments, elected officials, consultants, local/state/federal agencies, and the general public; coordinates and attends project-related technical, public, and community meetings to represent the Agency; develops meeting materials including agendas, handouts, and meeting summaries; as required.
- Works with project staff to coordinate readiness review meetings and weekly progress meetings with consultants and contractors; and maintains accurate documentation and files.
- Prepares and submits Agency-required project reports; assists in preparing, coordinating, and processing annual and interim capital project budget updates.
- Performs technical analysis of various types of data in support of project development goals and prepares, under direction, associated technical and policy reports; prepares maps and visual/presentation materials to support technical analyses; responds to and researches requests for information, as well as updates on project status.
- Researches and manages other tasks as assigned for various technical subject areas, including such things as landscape and material salvage, sustainability tracking, assessment of materials, product information, and pedestrian and bike access issues.
- Provides support to the department and others on matters as directed; prepares staff reports and other necessary correspondence; attends and participates in professional meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the fields related to area of assignment; incorporates new developments as appropriate; ensures processes, policies, and practices are interpreted and applied consistently and effectively; ensures accountability and compliance with all current and applicable state and federal laws, Agency policies and procedures, rules and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be current college students in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor's, or graduate degree program in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, public administration, business administration, or a relevant two-year certificate. ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
- Ability to fluently operate office equipment including computers and know computer applications such as SharePoint, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Techniques to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and adjust to changing priorities.
- English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Clarity and accuracy of expression in writing, speaking, and graphic representations.
- Utilizing personal computer software programs affecting assigned work and in compiling and preparing spreadsheets and reports.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, management, vendors, outside agencies, community groups, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in a standard office environment.
- Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery when visiting job sites during construction and when working in the field.
