Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all assigned courses have current learning objectives, course outlines, instructor guides, student manuals, training aids, tests, media and centralized document control.
  • Supervise and conduct training of employees, contractors, and customers in the safety topics required to perform their jobs.
  • Be prepared to participate in safety committees and supervise employees where you are responsible for conducting safety job briefings and applying information, tools and techniques attained from EH&S training courses such as OSHA, Hazmat Tech, Emergency Response Refresher and First Aid/CPR on a day-to-day basis.
  • Coordinate with field personnel to ensure alignment of training with operations, including active participation in Training Effectiveness Committees (TECs) and Purposeful Field Visits, including participation in special projects.
  • Update and maintain Learning Management System (LMS) records.
  • Evaluate student performance of those being trained, or tested for a position, title change, or advancement in title.
  • Maintain inventory of the materials required to conduct training.
  • Participate in the development of Digital Learning Tools (for example eBook, eLearning, Micro Learning, videos, VR and AR).
  • Stay informed of operating incidents and accidents, issues, procedures, lessons learned, etc. Communicate these to the training staff and students, where applicable.
  • Maintain housekeeping responsibility for assigned rooms and areas and ensure compliance requirements are met, as assigned (e.g., fire extinguisher inspections, TLCs Energy Control Procedure, etc.).
  • May volunteer to participate in cross-functional teams and industry groups to stay current on changes in training, technical discipline, regulatory requirements, etc.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the development and administering of testing when needed.
  • Ensure that test results are fairly and accurately scored utilizing manual processes and following corporate procedures. Ensure confidentiality of test results and recommendations.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 Years of EH&S or related experience, or
  • Associate's Degree and 4 years of relevant work experience, or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • At least 2 years of relevant acceptable work experience, required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, required.
  • Should be certified or be capable of becoming First Aid, CPR/AED certified, Hand Signal training, Confined Space training, and other external safety certifications as needed, required.
  • Demonstrate high energy level, flexibility and the ability handle multiple tasks and assignments while working under tight deadlines, required.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, decision making and interpersonal skills with attention to detail and a solid teamwork orientation, required.
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor, confidence dealing with all levels of management/union personnel and the ability to work with sensitive and confidential information, required.
  • Ability to deliver presentations and facilitate group training sessions, required.
  • Hands-on experience with computer software programs, including Microsoft Office products, required.
  • Experience in EH&S, Electric, Gas or Steam, preferred.
  • Experience with eTrain, other LMS (Learning Management Systems, and TLC Portal, preferred.
  • Experience with hazardous waste manifests and managing waste streams, preferred.
  • Experience as a supervisor, conducting job briefings and overseeing the safety of employees and coworkers, preferred.
  • Experience with supervising employees where information attained in practical training such as OSHA, HazMat Tech, Emergency Response Refresher and First Aid/CPR is applied to day-to-day activities, preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must respond to system emergencies.
  • Ability to work at field locations in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in an environment that includes heat, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to enter underground vaults through manholes.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces).
  • Ability to work with and in the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems.
  • Must be approved and able to wear either a full- or half-face respirator without facial hair or other condition that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to walk, stand, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach.
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies.
  • Ability to wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including fire retardant clothing and safety harness.
  • Ability to work with equipment with manufacturer weight rating of 375 lbs.
  • Must be willing to travel within the Con Ed and/or O&R service territory, as needed.
