Strong leader needed for a nationally recognized substance use recovery program! This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in recovery-focused services, innovation, and partnership. You will lead a dynamic peer recovery specialist team at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center (ADC) dedicated to supporting individuals live a life of recovery. The STAR (Striving to Achieve Recovery) Program is a specialized men's housing unit in the ADC. Staff engage participants in a peer-centered recovery program, five days per week with groups, activities, and individual peer support. There is close collaboration with Sheriff's Office staff, including sworn deputies and civilians.
This position oversees the work of a team of peer recovery specialists. They facilitate multiple groups every day on a wide variety of recovery topics and activities. Individual peer recovery services work on recovery and re-entry planning, building recovery capital, accountability, problem-solving challenging relationships, and learning a new way of living. Services are focused on supporting participants to lead a life of recovery both during incarceration, and after release. The team also provides limited peer support for the general population and may deliver select services in other settings as needed.
This leader should be grounded in principles peer support of substance use recovery, have a solid understanding of multiple pathways to recovery, and an ability to relate to participants. Reliability and ability to work on diverse teams are crucial for success. Cultivates a recovery environment, ensuring participants are supported in making self-determined plans for recovery and carrying out those plans, and trains and supervises peer recovery specialists in their work, assigning tasks, ensures operating procedures are closely followed including documentation. In addition, this position ensures services are maintained at a high recovery-centered standard and looks for opportunities for program growth and innovation. The position will provide a limited number of direct services with groups individuals services as needed.
There is daily close partnership with Sheriff's Office Sworn staff, civilian staff, clinical staff, and other partner staff at the ADC. This includes coordination in general operations, problem-solving, planning, and evaluating services. Effective collaboration skills, and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary setting are crucial.

MINIMUM QUALIFCATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree plus four years of professional human services or related work experience.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Valid Driver's License -
National or Virginia Peer Support Certification -
Virginia Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) through the Virginia Board of Counseling within 6 months of employment. -
Integrated Forensic Peer Recovery (IFPRS) certification within 1 year of employment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, a driving record check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years' experience working in collaboration with law enforcement.
- 2+ years' experience providing direct peer recovery services.
- 1+ years' experience as a supervisor
- 4+ years' experience facilitating groups.
- Integrated Forensic Peer Support Training
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to operate car, observe behavior of individuals served and the service environment and have mobility to travers stairs, hallways, and other areas of the Fairfax Adult Detention Center. Ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff, both by phone and in person. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
