Department Summary

The Department of Film, Television and Digital Media provides professional and scholarly approaches to the study of media and helps students discover their powers as independent artists and communicators.
Position Summary

Operate the James Bridges Theater projection booth, James Bridges Theater and the Digital Screening Theater (1422), which provides screening facilities to the department, various organizations and off campus rentals. Major duties include projection, supervised maintenance, repair and adherence to safety rules and regulations.

Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Skill in operating sophisticated professional motion picture and video projection equipment. (Preferred)
  • Skill in perceiving cause and effect relationships in mechanical and electrical equipment. (Preferred)
  • Detailed knowledge of safety rules and regulations related to the professional projection of films and tapes and specifically hazardous nitrate film. (Preferred)
  • Detailed knowledge of mechanical relationships and optics related to projection equipment. (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of electronics and electricity as it relates to projection equipment. (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of motion picture and video projection. (Preferred)
  • Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect relative importance of job responsibilities. (Required)
  • Ability to speak on a one to-one basis using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain information, explain policies and procedures, and persuade others to understand a specific opinion or action. (Preferred)
  • Skill in working as part of a team: collaborating with colleagues. (Required)
  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain cooperative working relationships. (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge of professional projection practices related to problems, situations, practices or procedure in order to: define the problem or objective; identify relevant concerns or factors; formulate logical and objective. (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge of radio, television and film archival preservation. Skill in use of computers. (Preferred)
  • Skill in performing repetitive projection work according to set procedures, sequence and pace. (Preferred)
  • Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are: changes in workload; changes in assignment; frequent interruptions or distractions; competing requirements. (Required)
  • Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal or no direction. (Required)
  • Ability to accept equivocal circumstances and take action where answers to a projection problem are not readily apparent. (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge of house management practices. Detailed knowledge of film traffic procedures. (Preferred)
  • Skill in recognizing an emergency and taking appropriate action. (Preferred)
