The Department of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health is recruiting a full-time experienced Associate Research Scientist to work with Dr. Zeki Al Hazzouri's research team on her ongoing project on cognitive aging, ADRD, and late life learning.

The main project, in collaboration with the American University of Beirut, has built a prospective cohort that enables us to evaluate late life learning's ability to mediate cognitive decline and the effect of early psychosocial exposures. The research associate will have a leadership role in the continuing work of this project and development of the study.

The Associate Research Scientist should have a high level of experise or mastery of multiple aspects of cognitive aging and dementia across the research cycle, and have experience working with a variety of populations/cohorts, including low- to middle-income countries. They should be equipped to solve a broad range of complex problems and bring a new perspective to existing solutions, using their experience as well as available information to exercise judgement. While the research scientist should be able to work independely on the larger part of designing analyses, drafting grant applications (NIH or third-party), they will also be in a collaborative research environment. Ideally, the candidate will be able to provide leadership to junior team members and manage resource and workflow allocation to ensure deadlines and project goals are met.

The Associate Research Scientist should have a comprehensive understanding of statistical research technicques, tools, and software in order to better develop protocols and instruments in support of the project. Experience working across diverse cultural and educational backgrounds is ideal. They will play a leading role in the further development of this project and should be interested/commited to making an impact in Dr. Zeki Al Hazzouri's lab and the larger field of social determinants of health and coginitive outcomes.

Essential Functions:

Grant development- 30%

Research and manuscript development - 40%

Collaboration and team management (analyses delegation, project administration) - 25%

Other related duties as assigned - 5%

Minimum Qualifications:

A PhD in epidemiology, public health, or a related field. 6-10 Years of experience in epidemiology or public health. Programming experience in STATA or R is required. Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and independent project management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Additional Qualifications:

The successful candidate must possess a high level of initiative, clear communication skills, and attention to detail in addition to a demonstrated ability to be flexible and play a leadership role in the team's evolving needs. Ideally, the candidate will have experience in health and epidemiology related research, project management/administration of large-scale cohorts and projects.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
