The primary function of this job is to manage and direct the sales activities of industrial, medical, and specialty gases and welding supplies in assigned district. Coordinates sales distribution by establishing sales territories, quotas, and goals and advises branch managers, distributors, vendors, and customers concerning sales and advertising techniques. Reviews market analysis to determine customer needs', volume potential, price schedules, and discount rates; develops sales campaigns to accommodate goals of the company. Direct product simplification and standardization to eliminate unprofitable items from inventory. Serve as liaison between sales department and other sales-related units. Overall responsibility for the critical issues of branch operation and profitability, including sales, sales growth, budgeting, gross margins, operating expenses, P & L responsibilities, safety, customer service, inventory, equipment, building and vehicles, community relations, accounts receivable and resolution of personnel issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops, coaches, and directs the efforts of the sales staff (inside and outside) to achieve highest safety standards and performance.

  • Ensures all customers receive quality customer services from company associates, penetrating exiting customer base with all product lines and product normally inventoried by region.

  • Ensures customer inquiries related to billing problems, cylinder balances, order status, time of delivery, etc. are promptly and courteously handled; follows up as necessary.

  • Leads and promotes safety, organizes safety meetings, and strictly enforces safety rules.

  • Maintains and upgrades selling skills and technical/product knowledge and ensures existing customer are current on new products and processes.

  • Ensures compliance with all company policies and procedures.

  • Assists in store activities to provide effective customer service and company productivity.

  • Ensures disciplinary issues and performance deficiencies are properly discussed, documented in a timely manner, and forwarded to individuals personnel file.

  • Assist the Branch Manager in hiring, lead, supervise, evaluate, manage, motivate and train employees.

  • Assist outside sales representatives in all areas, including but not limited to preparing quotes, maintaining all literature required, providing customer follow-up, and gathering sales leads.

  • Prepares market and competitor information, annual sales analysis and forecast for the Area Vice President.

  • Prepares annual budget.

  • Monitors fiscal performance of the branches as compared to budget.

  • Controls branch expenditures and costs.

  • Oversees completion of sales-related paperwork (shippers, invoices, cylinder audits, month end reports, etc.) in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory levels.

  • Reviews contract price files quarterly.

  • Relates gross profit dollars and margins to gross profit requirements and budget.

  • Relates actual net income to budget.

  • Conforms actual gross profit to guidelines, as evidence by monthly reports.

  • Ensure subordinate complaints are effectively handled.

  • Consult with Human Resources regarding personnel issues.

  • Responsible for appearance, cleanliness and functionality of facilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors Degree from four-year college/university or 7+ years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 7+ years experience in welding industry and/or sales, preferably both.

  • Computer literacy required.

  • Minimum of three years supervisory experience, demonstrated ability to effectively manage a wide array of personnel issues.

  • Minimum of three years successful management of a sales team that exceeded plan.

  • Past record of achieving double digit sales year over year sales growth.

  • Able to perform data entry in a computer and extract information on orders.
