Overview

The Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of lumber and manufactured components throughout the yard. This role primarily operates outdoors and plays a critical part in loading and unloading finished products such as roof trusses and floor trusses, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely delivery to customers.

This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a forklift to load and unload lumber, roof trusses, and floor trusses from trucks and yard storage areas

  • Stage and organize materials for production, shipment, and inventory control

  • Inspect loads to ensure accuracy and proper securement before transport

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, both in the yard and loading areas

  • Communicate effectively with drivers, production teams, and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures at all times

  • Perform routine equipment checks and report any maintenance needs

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in English; bilingual is a plus.

  • Basic math skills (counting, measuring, verifying quantities)

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to make timely and sound decisions and use resources effectively

  • Positive, team-oriented attitude with the ability to stay composed in challenging situations

  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Training & Certification:

  • No prior forklift certification required

  • Forklift certification will be provided through the 84 Components Fork Truck License program

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 3:30 pm (Eventual Saturdays are required)

Pay: $20/hr

Responsibilities

Train in all areas of the Yard Department to include operating various types of mobile and fixed equipment including forklifts, and loaders. Training includes required hours for each job position and practical test to be a qualified operator.

Interpret all operational procedures and parameters, including Job Safety Analysis and Work Instructions.

Perform additional duties as needed.

Recommends improvements to make the workplace safer for self and others.

Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.

Works well with team members or independently; gives and receives feedback in a constructive manner.

84 Components Fork Truck License
