A Day In The Life
The Manager, Design Engineering, under the leadership of the Director of Engineering and Manufacturing, will support new product development and launch to meet ASG and our customers goals and objectives. The Design Engineering Manager will ensure that ASG engineering processes are adhered to and take action to enhance cross-functional coordination of supporting business groups.

As a Mgr, Design Engineering you will:

  • Reliable, consistent, on-site attendance is a requirement. This position requires you to be punctual and dependable in order to meet the needs of the business; including attending and participating in meetings and presentations.
  • Lead, motivate, reward, and develop ASG Design Engineer(s) and ensure their compliance with all applicable rules and regulations
  • Establish and maintain adherence to product expectations for product categories as assigned.
  • Define and oversee configuration, requirements, and documentation for products.
  • Represent ASG at external customers Design Review of products.
  • Oversee coordination of resources for design evaluation (parts, vehicles, stakeholders)
  • Evaluate design and integration of the product to determine if it meets our expectations, identify where design and integration of the product may fall outside current ASG capabilities, and help develop new and improved methods and tools where needed.
  • Evaluate product to ensure compliance with ASG expectations for appearance, fit, and function.
  • Evaluate product to ensure it meets ASG expectations for reliability and serviceability.
  • Identify potential failure modes and help develop countermeasures to minimize frequency and severity of failure.
  • Manage stakeholder ideas and concerns and provide feedback to the supplier.
  • Determine if or when to proceed with product development.
  • Execute and facilitate readiness for manufacturing of accessories.
  • Oversee the technical review and validation of new products; incorporating feedback from various operating groups as well as Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles.
  • Oversee external customer's readiness for installation of accessories, including installation training.
  • Evaluate applicability of products to model year carry-over, including validation activities.
  • Manage the product design record and documentation records of products.
  • Lead product quality problem-solving efforts, including Supplier corrective action.
  • Lead Quality Plan development for newly launched products.
  • Lead in review of warranty and other indicators of field performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in the continual improvement of product and process development and launch processes.
  • Participate in supplier qualification, sourcing decisions, and supplier development.
  • Participate in determining the direction of the product portfolio and help optimize accessory product category opportunities throughout all vehicle lines.

What We Need From You

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering (Automotive, Electrical, or Mechanical Preferred) Req and
  • 5-7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience Required
  • Experience in product quality and part-approval Preferred
  • Demonstrate leadership, team building, Project Management, action planning, and coordinating skills.
  • Strong understanding of current industry-wide (OE and aftermarket) product expectations for accessory product categories as assigned.
  • Familiarity with common manufacturing processes for accessory product categories as assigned.
  • Familiarity of installation methods of automotive product categories as assigned.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is necessary.
  • Demonstrate action planning and coordination skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent technical analysis and diagnostic skills.
  • Interpret technical instructions, specifications, regulations, and part drawings and effectively communicate/verify changes for accessory product categories as assigned.
  • Effectively communicate expectations, observations, and recommendations - orally and in writing.
  • Work within a structured process and know when and how to initiate and lead change.
  • Strong observation skills, intuition, and ability to anticipate potential barriers or failure.
  • Ability to effectively communicate across a wide range of disciplines throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness. Business Acumen
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Required
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer Preferred
  • Society of Automotive Engineering and/or other quality, engineering or automotive associations Preferred

Physical and Environmental RequirementsThe physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly and repeatedly required to talk; hear; stand; walk; stoop; kneel/squat, climb, use hands and fingers, to handle, grip/squeeze and/or feel; push/pull and reach with hands and arms. The associate will be frequently required to balance; crouch, or crawl; reach over-head and taste or smell. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Travel Requirements
10% Minimal travel is required for this position and on a domestic basis.
