Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At Gates, we welcome challenges, celebrate hard work, and continually seek new talent to join our global company. Our Global Mobility group in Denver is looking for an Engineering Intern. The Engineering Intern will be responsible for assisting engineers and project management in meeting project timelines/deliverables and undertaking engineering process improvements in design, inspection, testing, and validation. This is in support of product development for belt drive systems in bikes, fitness equipment, motorcycles, powersports, and scooters. Engineering Design



  • Develop and compile design guidelines for product development.
  • Design changes and improvements.
  • Design product enhancements, prototype, and test for performance.


Materials Engineering



  • Research and experiment with alternative materials and process concepts.
  • Conduct material utilization studies to reduce cost and improve performance.
  • Evaluate process and process interactions.


Development Engineering:



  • Perform design for manufacturing (DFM) studies on current and new products.
  • Conduct process capability studies for various manufacturing processes to reduce variation.
  • Investigate product tolerance impact on part performance including tolerance stack up in assembly.
  • Evaluate inspection equipment for new capabilities and efficiency.


Project Engineering:



  • Project Management and communication of project status and progress.
  • Coordinating work among stakeholders for new product development.

Keys to Success

This position requires someone with sound technical aptitude, attention to detail, communication proficiencies (verbal, written, etc.) and the ability to learn and demonstrate acquired new skills.



  • Ability to learn 3D CAD software (SolidWorks proficiency is a plus).
  • Ability to read engineering drawings (GD&T experience is a plus).
  • Proven interest in mechanical design engineering through extracurricular activities, academic projects, passion projects, or equivalent experiences.
  • Excellent grasp of engineering fundamentals.
  • Eagerness to collaborate cross-functionally with other engineering teams while able to work independently; detail-oriented and execution focused.
  • Curiosity and willingness to understand how our products are designed, built and how they operate.

  • None
  • No supervisory responsibilities; accountable for own contribution
Requirements and Preferred Skills

  • Currently working towards a BS or MS in a relevant engineering program such as Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, etc.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

PAY



  1. Summer Intern (30 - 40 hours a week)
  2. Hourly Rate between $20.00-$25.00
  3. Not eligible for employee benefits
  4. Relocation is not provided
