Associate Underwriter - Hartford, CT

Support the underwriting team in the solicitation, selection, and pricing of highly complex multiline risks. Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations. Analyze quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepares reports accordingly. Develop client relationships and participate in service team efforts. Assist in special projects or other duties as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Build basic rate making and underwriting knowledge through scheduled training sessions and on the job training.
• Analyze, select and begin to identify profitable commercial risks and determine terms and conditions of coverage on new and renewal business
• Apply and conform to underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manuals, insurance laws and regulations.
• Solicit new business consistent with underwriting strategy in coordination with marketing staff.
• Participate with other members of the segment on direct account activities with various internal departments.
• Develop and maintain client and service team relationships.
• Identify opportunities for organizational improvement and recommend solutions.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

  • 3 years of related insurance experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of insurance concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with various levels of management and support personnel.
