Job Summary

The Data Center Technician I is an entry-level role responsible for supporting the installation and maintenance of structured cabling and physical infrastructure within new construction data center environments. This position provides hands-on experience working with fiber and copper cabling, rack installations, and cable management systems while following installation drawings, technical standards, and safety protocols. Technicians work alongside experienced team members to support the buildout of critical infrastructure, assist with equipment staging and hardware assembly, and maintain organized and safe job sites. This role offers a structured path for skill development and career progression within the telecom and low voltage industry.

Job Responsibilities



  • Install and route fiber and copper cabling infrastructure within data center environments.
  • Perform cable management tasks including dressing, labeling, and organizing cabling pathways.
  • Assist with fiber and cable termination activities under supervision.
  • Rack and stack customer equipment according to rack elevation plans.
  • Support server rack build-outs and equipment mounting.
  • Install fiber trays, ladder racks, cabinets, and other cable pathway infrastructure.
  • Assist with infrastructure installations including cable management systems, fiber tray systems, ladder racks, and power trays.
  • Receive materials and support hardware staging and assembly.
  • Assist with outside plant (OSP) fiber entry installations into the facility.
  • Read and follow blueprints, rack elevations, and installation drawings.
  • Maintain professional communication with team members and supervisors.
  • Follow safety protocols including proper PPE usage, job site cleanliness, and OSHA-aligned practices.


Job Requirements



  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a data center, telecommunications, construction, or low voltage installation environment.
  • Ability to read and follow installation drawings, blueprints, and written technical instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of fiber and copper cabling installation practices including routing, dressing, labeling, and termination assistance.
  • Familiarity with rack and equipment installation or mechanical assembly.
  • Ability to safely operate ladders and scissor lifts when required.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds when necessary.
  • Ability to work on feet for extended periods and perform work in confined or physically demanding environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining organized and safe work areas.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools including screwdrivers, tape measures, snips, pliers, punch down tools, and flashlights.
  • Required personal protective equipment may include work boots (steel toe or composite toe), gloves, and tool pouch.

  • This position is fully onsite in a new construction data center environment.
  • Typical shift start time is approximately 7:00 AM.
  • Expected work schedule ranges from approximately 45-55 hours per week depending on project demands.
