Job Summary

The Data Center Technician II is responsible for supporting the installation, testing, and maintenance of structured cabling and physical infrastructure within new construction data center environments. This role performs more advanced installation work including fiber termination, cable pathway installation, equipment rack build-outs, and cable testing using industry-standard tools. Technicians interpret installation drawings and technical documentation to complete infrastructure builds while maintaining high standards for safety, organization, and quality. This position works closely with project leadership and junior technicians to ensure projects are completed efficiently and in accordance with technical specifications.

Job Responsibilities



  • Perform cable infrastructure installations and fiber rough-in within data center environments.
  • Manage cable routing, dressing, and labeling to maintain organized and compliant cabling systems.
  • Terminate fiber and copper cabling connections according to installation standards.
  • Install and configure single-mode and multi-mode fiber using connectors such as ST, LC, SC, and SC-APC.
  • Conduct fiber testing using Fluke meters and OTDR equipment.
  • Troubleshoot fiber connectivity and signal issues.
  • Rack and stack customer equipment according to rack elevation plans.
  • Build out server racks and install hardware components.
  • Install fiber trays, ladder racks, cabinets, and cable pathway infrastructure.
  • Complete infrastructure installations including cable management systems, fiber tray systems, ladder racks, and power trays.
  • Receive materials and assist with hardware staging and assembly.
  • Perform outside plant (OSP) fiber entry installations into the data center facility.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, rack elevations, and installation drawings.
  • Communicate professionally with team members and project leadership both verbally and in writing.
  • Follow safety guidelines including proper PPE usage, job site cleanliness, and OSHA-aligned practices.


Job Requirements



  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a data center technician or in a structured cabling environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of fiber installation, termination, and maintenance experience.
  • Experience performing fiber testing using Fluke and OTDR equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret installation drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Experience installing rack infrastructure, cable pathways, and structured cabling systems.
  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Ability to safely work on ladders and scissor lifts when required.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds when necessary.
  • Ability to work on feet for extended periods and perform work in confined or physically demanding environments.
  • Proficiency using basic hand tools including screwdrivers, tape measures, snips, pliers, punch-down tools, and flashlights.
  • Required personal protective equipment may include work boots (steel toe or composite toe), gloves, and tool pouch.

  • This position is fully onsite in a new construction data center environment.
  • Typical shift start time is approximately 7:00 AM.
  • Expected work schedule ranges from approximately 45-55 hours per week depending on project demands.
