Maintenance Mechanic at Certified Thermoplastics Repairs and maintains tooling, machinery, and mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, pneumatic tools, production machines, building/facility, as well as preventative maintenance and emergency response by performing the following duties. Job Summary
- Clean, inspect, and repair tooling used for plastics manufacturing and prepare for next
production run.
- General mechanical maintenance of various manufacturing equipment including mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Modify and/or adjust basic mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems for varied use
as required by production.
- Troubleshoot and repair basic mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic system failures.
- Operates all types of conventional power tools
- Lubricates, cleans, paint
- Sets up and operates lathe, mill, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
- Drive forklift, arial boom lifts, scissors lifts, and small truck
- Physical Protection and Monitoring
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Start devices to test their performance.
- Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Arc, gas, tig/mig welding
- Install new equipment
- Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
- Performs other duties as assigned including leading projects and participation in project
committees
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of mechanical and facilities repair and maintenance.
- Ability to read, interpret, and verbally communicate documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Read and understand complicated blueprints and specifications
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or
diagram form. - Must be able to work independently and follow detailed, written instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be able to install, maintain, diagnose and correct problems on complicated machinery and
specialized plant equipment (i.e. plastic extrusion and fabrication equipment, automated machine tools, ect.) - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals. - Knowledge of Microsoft Software such as ability to email and search internet for parts and repair
methods. - Occasional to frequent overtime and weekend work is required.
Required Experience and Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years' experience in machine tool field
- Ability to read mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics
- 5 years of successful related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of
education and experience
Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required
- Manufacturing environment
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and fully enclosed steel or composite toe shoes while in all manufacturing areas. Hearing protection, respirator and hard hat in certain manufacturing areas.
- Noise level is usually moderate
- May occasional work in confined and/or elevated spaces.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions.
