Responsibilities

This 1-year position is responsible for participating in the NYBC Fellowship program. This is an ACGME-accredited postgraduate medical education program that prepares physicians for board certification in transfusion medicine and for practice as medical directors of transfusion services or blood donor centers.

    Rotates for 4 months at Hospital Site 1 [assigned by Program Director], 4 months at Hospital Site 2 [as assigned by Program Director], and 4 months at NYBCe-Rye.
  • Attend all required meetings, conferences, lectures.
  • Travels to Rhode Island Blood Center assigned.
  • Complete all activities required during each program rotation, which include rotations through special donor services; immunohematology and blood group genomics; HLA laboratory; core operations & infectious disease laboratory; and comprehensive cell solutions.
  • Completes a scholarly project, which may be in bench research, clinical research, and/or quality improvement.
  • Participates in journal club.
  • Provides feedback to management regarding knowledge/skills acquired and the overall program experience.
  • Meets the core learning objectives of the fellowship program.
  • Provides first-call medical coverage, as assigned, under the supervision of the senior medical staff.
  • Provides medical support as needed for all NYBC blood services operations and other clinical services.
  • Agrees to document Clinical and Educational Hours and will notify the Program Director if duties exceed limits set by ACGME and NY State regulations.
  • Works on special projects as assigned.
  • Any related duties as assigned.

Travel:

  • Up to 10% to other NYBCe locations.


Qualifications

Education:

  • M.D. or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Meeting program requirements as outlined in Fellowship Policy on "Recruitment, Selection, Eligibility and Appointment of Fellows".

Licences / Certifications:

  • License to practice medicine in New York.

Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive knowledge in transfusion medicine and integrate it into medical practice.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain accurate paper and electronic records.
  • Strong management, leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Strong attention to detail in all work processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with internal and external partners.

For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is , and commensurate with the $121,540.00p/year applicant's skills, job-related knowledge, and experience. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates.
