What you'll do

We have a great opportunity for an In-process & Final Inspector to join our Government team! In this role you will, inspect various electrical and electromechanical assemblies for compliance with applicable specifications & standards within the Viasat production process at in-process and final inspection steps. IP & Final Inspectors use various optical equipment, measurement tools, & gages in the course of their inspection work plus photographic equipment to help detail nonconforming conditions. You will create inspection records and nonconformance reports in the Viasat MRP system. You will collaborate with production & engineering personnel, learn and uphold 6S workplace organization standards, & learn and observe production handling practices consistent with Viasat's Space Flight Culture. IP & Final Inspectors inspect a variety of products supporting multiple manufacturing programs throughout various labs within the facility and may require occasional travel to other Viasat facilities within the local Tempe/Phoenix area.


The day-to-day

Inspecting various electrical & electromechanical assemblies within the production environment & documenting inspection results within the Viasat MRB system. Maintaining strong teamwork with the IP & Final inspection team to coordinate inspections daily throughout the various manufacturing production programs. Work with production and engineering teams, share insights, solve problems, & help establish methods.


What you'll need

  • 3+ years proven experience as an electrical and/or mechanical inspector.
  • Good interpretation skills of assembly drawings & inspection standards.
  • Intermediate utilization level of inspection equipment, gages, & inspection techniques.
  • Good judgment & discernment skills of acceptable & rejectable conditions.
  • Strong computer skills in MS & other business platforms to complete inspection tasks independently.
  • Ability to acquire & maintain IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
  • The ability to communicate clearly & concisely both verbally & in writing.
  • Personal initiative, the ability to set a positive example, and provide leadership when needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Local/regional travel may be required - up to 10%.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Dayshift hours, 5-day/week.
  • Occasional weekends/overtime consistent with business needs.
  • Must be able to work onsite in our Carlsbad, CA office

What will help you on the job

  • Basic GD&T experience in accordance with ANSI Y14.5 desirable.
  • Current CIS certification to IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, PIC/WHMA-A-620 desirable.

Salary range

$21.63 - $34.13 / hourly.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $26.68 - $40.14/ hourly
