Job Description: Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, seeks a Signalling Commissioning Engineer to be responsible for defining and performing assigned signalling tests as part of an overall testing and commissioning plan for simple or medium (in terms of equipment, subsystems, and/or interfaces) signalling projects. This position is for a roving employee who will be working in unanticipated locations throughout the United States. The employee will have to relocate, but travel is not required from any particular location. Accountabilities: Specific duties include: (1) assisting in the management of track testing and commissioning as part of the project to install and test a new ATS on an existing ICS that will interface with the existing interlocking and legacy ATC system of the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) project; (2) executing testing and commissioning activities from installation to the start of revenue service; (3) conducting all testing and commissioning activities in compliance with company standards, contract requirements, project schedule, approved test procedures, quality, safety, and environmental objectives; (4) creating and issuing test documentation, results, and reports; (5) regularly reporting test and commissioning progress and status to the commissioning manager; (6) managing the configuration of tools, documentation, hardware, and software in the field; (7) performing troubleshooting, identification, and resolution of system and subsystem issues, and escalating issues to engineering and management as needed; (8) working independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision; (9) working under pressure during intense periods of testing and commissioning activities; (10) working flexibly and efficiently in support of the project, which may include working shift rotation, nights, weekends, and holidays; and (11) interacting with customers and the project team professionally. Required Skills/ Knowledge: Must have experience in or for the railway industry with the following: (1) installation and adjustment of floor equipment; (2) verification of existing wiring diagrams, schemes and plans; (3) testing and adjustment work, including participating in testing and adjustment of track systems in accordance with adjustment regulations; (4) hardware design and application logic design; (5) reading, understanding, interpreting, reviewing and analyzing relay- and microprocessor-based wayside interlocking circuits design drawings, schematics, and plans (single, double-line track plans, and cable plans) in accordance with established signalling design principles; (6) troubleshooting complex signalling electrical circuits using design drawings based on a functional understanding of established signalling systems design principles; (7) troubleshooting signalling application logic developed for microprocessor devices (particularly MicroLok II), using MicroLok II Development System; (8) developing laboratory, factory and site acceptance plan, procedures, and datasheets; (9) preparing laboratory, factory and site acceptance tests; (10) executing laboratory, factory and site acceptance testing of train control technology, including system integration testing with office and other auxiliary signalling systems (including level crossing and dispatching systems); and (11) preparing laboratory, factory and site acceptance test reports upon completion of such testing. Education/Qualifications: Must have: (1) Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies on Railroad Transport, and (2) Five years of experience in a Signalling Engineering position in or for the Railway Industry.
