Workweek

Up to 20 Hours | Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as needed. This program runs from June 1 through July 1, 2026.
This program also has multiple locations while the program runs, locations include: McHenry County College, Crystal Lake; Holiday Home Camp, Williams Bay, WI; MCC Catalyst Campus, Woodstock, IL


Position Summary

The Rising Scholars instructor will provide instruction in varied subjects, e.g., Creative Writing, Lab Science, Biology, Foreign Language, Math, VEX Robotics, or other related fields, dependent upon their interest and qualifications, that supports curriculum for high school students enrolled in the program.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Analyze student needs
  • Develop and/or adapt curriculum aligned with program goals and student needs, as applicable.
  • Create and implement lesson plans, instructional materials, and learning activities to support student success.
  • Plan and deliver engaging instructional sessions, which may include lectures, workshops, or facilitated discussions.
  • Incorporate laboratory activities; engage students in hands-on activities
  • Assess student learning through appropriate evaluation methods, including grading, feedback, and progress monitoring.
  • Maintain clear and consistent documentation of student performance and participation.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure instructional alignment and continuous improvement of program offerings.
  • Answer student questions and clarify areas of concern
  • Assist students with homework, projects, class assignments and college applications
  • Assist staff with college readiness workshops
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in subject area, STEAM, or related field
  • One (1) plus years' work-related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience

Desired Qualifications:
  • Valid Illinois Teaching License (PEL)
  • High school teaching experience
  • TRIO alumni or experience working with TRIO students and/or students from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience working with teenagers in a camp setting or a residence hall
  • Relevant academic background that reflects a commitment to academic excellence

  • Open and encouraging, yet appropriately assertive
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Takes directions well, but also offers ideas
  • Works well with other staff members
  • Positive outlook and demeanor
  • Available to workday and/or evening hours
  • Ability to complete all required online and in person training prior to 5/22/26.
