We are currently searching for an experienced Healthcare Grant Compliance Specialist Level 2 to support our Program Management Group located in Alabama as part of the Alabama Rural Health Transformation Program.

This position will support a statewide healthcare initiative focused on improving access, quality, and outcomes for rural communities across Alabama. The Grant Compliance Specialist will play a key role in ensuring program files, provider documentation, reimbursement records, and operational processes comply with all federal, state, and program-specific funding requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with healthcare reimbursement, Medicaid/Medicare programs, provider compliance, grants management, or federally funded healthcare programs. Experience with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations and grant oversight is highly preferred.

What you'll be doing:

  • Review grant-funded program files, supporting documentation, and reimbursement requests for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Ensure expenditures, activities, and documentation align with grant agreements, program policies, and applicable federal/state regulations
  • Verify eligibility, enrollment, provider participation, and required supporting records prior to approval or processing
  • Monitor compliance with CMS, state Medicaid, and other applicable funding requirements
  • Identify deficiencies, inconsistencies, or missing documentation and issue corrective action recommendations
  • Track compliance findings, recurring issues, corrective actions, and trends
  • Support preparation for audits, desk reviews, monitoring visits, and regulatory reporting
  • Collaborate with program staff, providers, and leadership to resolve compliance issues and documentation gaps
  • Assist in developing internal controls, compliance procedures, and monitoring tools
  • Maintain confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive healthcare information

What you need to have:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Public Administration, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in grants compliance, healthcare operations, program monitoring, reimbursement review, or regulatory compliance
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, CMS-funded programs, or grant-funded healthcare initiatives preferred
  • Strong understanding of documentation standards, internal controls, and regulatory compliance
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with federal grant compliance requirements (2 CFR Part 200, subrecipient monitoring, allowable costs, documentation standards)
  • Experience with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) programs or reporting requirements
  • Experience with healthcare finance, provider enrollment, or claims validation
  • Familiarity with grants management systems, or healthcare data systems
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare privacy requirements
  • Strong analytical and detail-oriented mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem-solving and process improvement mindset
  • Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews, or monitoring visits
