JOB SUMMARY: Provide Medical Support Assistant services at Pawnee Indian Health Center.

PRIMARY DUTIES:



  • Interview patients to obtain pertinent patient registration information, i.e. demographic and insurance information and authorization to enable the FBO to bill for health care services provided.
  • Assist patients in completing new or updated forms for the RPMS/BPRM Practice Management Suite.
  • Determine eligibility of patients seeking health care by obtaining the certificate of Indian blood or other documentary proof of tribal membership according to IHS guidelines.
  • Identify those patients whose healthcare benefits are subject to prior approval to determine the extent of healthcare for outpatient services.
  • Obtain signatures for file on required form for alternate resources and purchased referred care prior to patients being seen in the clinics for billing purposes and/or PRC eligibility.
  • Maintains, key-enters, updates and verifies all alternate resources data necessary for patient registration and for accurate billing through the use of RPMS/BPRM Practice Management Suite. Make corrections as necessary to improve the patient registration system.
  • Collects third party recipient health cards, obtains photocopies of the card and explains the program to the beneficiaries, i.e. why Medicare, Medicaid and/or private/commercial insurance will be billed for the services they receive at the IHS facility.
  • Interview patient to obtain information to initiate a new health record and/or communicate to Medical Records to reactivate a retired/stored record. Enter all information in the RPMS/BPRM Practice management Suite.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
