Career Opportunity

We are currently seeking candidates for a Senior IT Specialist/Linux position, located in our Wallops Island, VA station. Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) Wallops Island requires support for management, engineering, operation, and technical expertise for activation, operations, maintenance and engineering of equipment, systems, and computer programs in support of all Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Program Executive Office, Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS) missions and projects performed at SCSC. SCSC provides live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric, maritime environment to develop, test, evaluate, and conduct fleet operations and training for the warfighter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior IT Specialist/Linux will have adequate experience and training to effectively perform the duties listed below:

Install, configure, upgrade and maintain Linux/RHEL servers and workstations to the latest approved versions
• Maintain compliance with DoD Security Technical Configuration Guides (STIGs) utilizing various tools.
• Investigate trouble calls, isolate faults, identify and implement corrective actions to restore systems.
• Create and administer user accounts, security groups, or other user settings.
• Configure and manage patching solutions, backup support and log collection
• Provide technical support to onsite users.
• Write scripts to automate processes.
• Oversee daily operations and performance to support & provide guidance to team members.

Education, Knowledge or Certifications Required

• Bachelor's degree within the last five years in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Software Engineering or similar degree as listed in the DoD 8140 listings from an ABET accredited or NCAE designated institution.

OR

• One of the following certifications:
• CompTIA Cloud+
• CompTIA Security+
• GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)
• Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
• GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC)

OR

• WAU DCWF WRC 451 System Administrator - Intermediate Playlist

Qualifications

• Active DoD Secret security clearance highly desired however candidates who are eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance will be considered. If the selected candidate does not hold an active clearance, he/she will receive a contingent offer. A start date will be established once an interim Secret clearance is granted.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from various work locations on base.
• Must maintain the capability to communicate with their supervisor and/or manager when not in the office.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to frequently traverse stairs.
• Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling.
• Reaching, handling, using equipment, keyboards, and mobile devices.
• Ability to lift items weighing up to 20 lbs.
