Controlled Substance Specialist Starting Annual Salary: $70,000 **Remote** Overview/Position Summary: As a Controlled Substance Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the organization's compliance and operational readiness across multiple locations. This position is both regulatory and operational, requiring close coordination with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and regulatory bodies. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain regulatory compliance by obtaining DEA and state registrations for locations, ensuring accuracy, and communicating with medical directors as necessary.
- Support business growth and change by attending planning meetings for new locations, relocations, or operational changes involving controlled substances and updating registrations as appropriate.
- Support enterprise system implementation of an electronic controlled substance recordkeeping system including guidance and troubleshooting functions.
- Provide operational support by serving as a firstline contact for controlled substance ordering challenges including interfacing with pharmaceutical vendors.
- Contribute to data and reporting efforts by assisting the Controlled Substances Team with data collection and analysis as needed, supporting compliance monitoring and program improvement initiatives.
- Prompt and regular attendance at work
- Obtain and manage DEA and state Board of Pharmacy registrations for registered locations
- Coordinate with medical directors functioning as DEA registrants to maintain currency of registrations
- Identify registration, storage, security, and other needs related to new business locations and location moves
- Support implementation of electronic recordkeeping system across the enterprise
- Communicate with pharmaceutical vendor to submit and update necessary controlled substance registrations
- Troubleshoot controlled substance ordering issues
- Assist Controlled Substances Team with data collection and analysis as needed
- Perform all other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of full-time healthcare work experience with pharmacy or EMS experience preferred
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office suite
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, or related area of focus from an accredited four-year college or University is preferred
- Current healthcare license/certification preferred (EMT, paramedic, CPhT, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Power BI
- Prior experience in healthcare regulatory affairs, pharmacy practice, or similar
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Able to work independently without daily instructions.
