As the volume and complexity of explosive component external production grows across multiple Product Realization Teams (PRTs) supporting all weapon systems, Sandia is in need of a dedicated on-site representative at our strategic supplier to streamline both technical and programmatic coordination. Embedded at the supplier in Miamisburg, Ohio, you will serve as Sandias primary interface across all PRTs executing work there enabling faster, more consistent communication and ensuring seamless integration of design, qualification, and production activities.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Act as a proactive liaison embedded onsite to support and empower PRT leads and supplier teams, fostering transparency and rapid coordination to keep projects on track
• Provide immediate technical and programmatic support onsite at the supplier
• Facilitate and participate in PRT meetings, drive the timely closure of action items, and escalate cross-team issues as needed
• Supports seamless, real-time communication between Sandias design, R&D, Production, Quality, and Procurement organizations and the supplier to accelerate decision making and problem resolution
• Assist in failure investigations and root-cause analyses by rapidly collecting data, coordinating supplier testing, and aligning with Sandia Product and Quality Engineers
• Negotiate day-to-day decisions in consultation with each PRT Lead to expedite solutions on manufacturing floor.
• Complete a Sandia Derivative Classifier (DC)
• Identify process inefficiencies and drive continuous-improvement initiatives to boost throughput, quality metrics, and cost effectiveness

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite in Miamisburg, Ohio.

Occasional travel to the Sandia Albuquerque Site may be required.

$117,500 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

The ideal R&D S&E Mechanical Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation.
• Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization in the NNSA complex.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

• Experience interfacing with and participating in Product Realization Teams.
• Familiarity with Sandias Product Realization Process (RPPs) and Supplier Quality Management System (SQMS)
• Experience with engineering drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Proven ability to develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes, including developing fixture and tooling
• Experience working with a supply base to realize products.
• Manage and coordinate lifecycle activities for manufacturing equipment, including preventive maintenance, calibration scheduling, and qualification to ensure continuous production readiness
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and statistical process control.
• Hands-on experience with explosive component production processes (e.g., resistance welding, laser welding, powder loading and pressing, metrology, testing)
• Experience with hazardous operations and a commitment to safety in an explosives facility.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences
• Ability to work effectively in a flexible, diverse team environment and manage multiple tasks and projects
