Position Highlights

The Materials Handler Driver performs manual and clerical duties related to shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing, and delivering a variety of materials, equipment, and supplies. Delivers orders to various areas around campus. The Materials Handler Driver may be responsible for a higher volume, high dollar amount and/or assigned responsibility over one or more specified areas. They are expected to handle high-dollar cost and fragile equipment or supplies and hazardous materials, such as chemicals or gases, when necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Stocks warehouse with products from outside vendors and returns from units.
  • Ensures proper rotation of products based on when received or expiration date.
  • Fills orders based on requests.
  • Communicates to buyer on shorts, outs, mis-picks, etc.
  • Informs buyer of mistakes and shortages.
  • Checks quality of products received and inspects produce.
  • Checks invoices against sheets.
  • Dates all products.
  • Places items on carts and delivers orders to units in a timely manner according to schedule.
  • Delivers products that are a direct ship.
  • Receives and returns items not in food service.
  • Puts produce away and take daily inventory.
  • Informs units if their orders are incorrect.
  • Retrieves cover sheets from buyers.
  • Retrieves computer generated cover sheets and checks invoices against cover sheets.
  • Takes paper work to office when completed.
  • Opens and closes receiving area.
  • Orders items through buyers and gives buyers daily stock levels.
  • Cleans dock and receiving area.
  • Greets and serves customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Provides suggestions and input to supervisor.
  • Actively solves problems, wherever possible.
  • Works harmoniously with coworkers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of automated or computerized system operations.
  • Knowledge of safety practices.
  • Knowledge of proper perishable product handling and storage.
  • Skill in operating forklift or other materials handler equipment.

Physical Requirement:

  • Able to occasionally transport/move a maximum of 60 lbs.
