Are you a Certified Pharmacy Technician who is looking to join an outstanding team of Pharmacy professionals? If so, we would love to talk to you about our growing Pharmacy at Newton-Wellesley Hospital! We have immediate full-time, opportunities at Newton Wellesley Pharmacy department. The ideal candidate will support the mission of the Pharmacy department by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medications in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. He/she will develop a full understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrate competency in carrying out all duties associated with delivering medications to the patient care area's. The successful candidate will use an Omnicell automated dispensing system, Epic computer software, and prepares hazardous and non-hazardous IV admixtures.
The ideal candidate will have the following key qualifications in order to be successful in this role: - High School diploma required - Must be except or PCTB certified, or a registered pharmacy intern with the state of Massachusetts - Familiarity with medical/drug terminology and abbreviations. - Demonstrated ability to walk and stand 70% of the time and to lift up to 35 pounds. - Ability to appropriately handle controlled substances. - Must meet eligibility requirements for Massachusetts registration as a Pharmacy Technician. - All Technicians must become registered by the state of Massachusetts before 1000 hours of employment. - Excellent communication and computer skills.
Job Description Summary
Summary
Under the direction of pharmacy leadership, follows established policies and procedures to perform a variety of routine support tasks that are integral to the operation of the pharmacy department.

Essential Functions
Assists in the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical supplies and medications in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Delivers and distributes medications to patient care areas.
Utilizes area-specific technology, including but not limited to robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems.
Performs cycle counts as necessary.
Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, performs required pharmaceutical dosage calculations necessary to prepare extemporaneous dosage forms, as applicable.
May prepare compounded sterile products using principles of aseptic technique, distribute and transport controlled substances under appropriate state regulations, or maintain code cart inventory.
Receives and sorts shipments of medications and supplies.
Recommends drug-related laboratory testing and interprets results when appropriate.
Delivers and stocks pharmacy inventory.
Maintains inventory in all pharmacy areas and automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs), including charge stock orders, ADC shrinkage, and patient and clinic requisitions.
Assists in the training and onboarding of more junior staff.
Provides information and triages phone calls to the appropriate individual within the pharmacy department.

Licenses and Credentials
Pharmacy Technician [State License] - Generic - HR Only required Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required

Experience
Hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician training program 2-3 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Shows knowledge of the pharmacology of drugs and the legal aspects of dispensing.
- Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices.
