Healthyhorns is the umbrella brand encompassing University Health Services, Counseling and Mental Health Center and Longhorn Wellness Center. Together, the departments work to enhance the health and well-being of students' bodies, minds and lives in support of their academic and personal goals.

University Health Services (UHS) is an accredited on-campus medical facility dedicated to addressing the various healthcare needs of UT Austin students. UHS provides comprehensive services, including general medical care, public health education and specialty clinics.

Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) is an accredited on-campus mental health facility dedicated to supporting the well-being of UT Austin students. CMHC offers a range of services, including assessment and referral, group and individual counseling, psychiatry and well-being services.

The Longhorn Wellness Center is the health promotion unit servicing University Health Services and Counseling and Mental Health Center. Staff focuses on educating students about priority college health issues by hosting workshops and events, creating new tools, and collaborating with the campus community to enhance overall well-being.

Note: This fellowship is designed as a one-year term with the possibility of extension for one additional year, based on organizational needs, and not to exceed two years in total.

Purpose

The purpose of the position is to implement outreach, event planning, and resource distribution activities for the Longhorn Wellness Center while gaining professional experience in a college health promotion office.

Responsibilities

Support Longhorns Wellness Center outreach and campus wellness events

  • Respond to requests for outreach events such as tabling or other events.

  • In coordination with Healthyhorns outreach coordinator and other professional staff ensure representation of Longhorn Wellness Center at campus events and outreach opportunities.

  • Provide training and coordinate peer educator presence at LWC events and outreach.

  • Assemble materials for events including literature, health supplies, and other materials.

  • Create and sustain outreach tracking processes.

  • Plan and implement strategic events, participate in collaborative events, and seek new opportunities to provide outreach about health and wellbeing on campus.

  • Facilitate workshops as appropriate.

  • Oversee event planning logistics and coordination for the office.

  • Assist with health promotion initiatives as needed.

Manage distribution, inventory, and evaluation of LWC wellness resources:

  • Manage day to day operations of campus safer sex supply distribution.

  • In collaboration with Senior Administrative Program Coordinator, create, track, and maintain sleep kit distribution processes.

  • Assist with creation, dissemination, and tracking of other LWC related materials and resources.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships to increase reach of LWC wellness resource distribution.

  • Identify opportunities for placing health promoting resources in new campus locations.

Support LWC marketing and outreach material development:

  • Suggest updates for the LWC website landing page monthly, manage event information andtimelyprogramming updates on LWC website.

  • Update various campus events calendars with LWC outreach events and information which may include the Texas Today calendar, Division Communicators Document, and other central sources of information as needed with event informationand programmatic updates.

  • Support development of LWC informational and outreach materials.

Support development and implementation of health promotion programs related to LWC's core health topic areas:

  • As needed, support implementation of initiatives within the Longhorn Wellness Center.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with student organizations, student leaders, on-campus departments, faculty, staff, and community groups, etc.

  • Participate in LWC committees as an active participant to advance campus health goals.

  • Participate in UHS, CMHC, university, and/or other committees as appropriate.

  • Contribute ideas and engage in problem solving in program development and planning meetings.

  • Create program plans for health promotion initiatives that include evidence informed foundations, clear objectives and learning outcomes, timelines and an evaluation plan.

  • Use assessment methods to understand student needs and program efficacy.

  • Develop programmatic budgets and submit funding proposals for new needs.

  • Keep up to date with current best practices and knowledge of relevant college health frameworks.

Administrative tasks and other duties assigned:

  • Attend meetings as assigned and respond to emails in a timely manner.

  • Actively participate in Longhorns Wellness Center team efforts, including staff development.

  • Complete other duties as needed and/or as directed by supervisor or other leaders.

Readily accepts other responsibilities and participates in other activities and committees as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, health education, higher education, social work, or related fieldor equivalent experience.

  • Prior work/volunteer experience with the Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC), SHIFT, and/or the Center for Students in Recovery.

  • Demonstrated experience using innovativetechnology andengagementmethods to enhance outreach efforts.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex job duties and project-based work.High level organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of current/emerging college health issues, interventionmethods, health behavior change theories, ecological framework, and/or evidence-based practices.

  • Experience designing and delivering programs to differing populations.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability in core areas ofhealth promotion,public health program planning,and assessment/evaluation.

  • Demonstratedexperience in building partnerships, strategic planning, curriculum development and/or project management.

  • Extensiveknowledge of and experience workingonissues surrounding health promotion, harm reduction, and/or culture change.

  • Work experience within a higher education setting or with the college student population.

Salary Range

$55,000 per year

Working Conditions
  • This position works 100% onsite

  • Exposure to chemicals and commercial items typically found in offices, medical clinics, and building repairs/maintenance.

Work Shift
  • 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
