Description Position: Sr. Mainframe/Systems Programmer Location: Chandler, AZ Number of Positions: 1 Start Date: 7/6/26 Duration: 12+ months Shift: 3 days onsite in Chandler and 2 days remote Pay Rate: $70.24 Interview Process: 2 Step Interview Process Our client, a large financial institution, is looking for a Sr. Mainframe Systems Programmer that has 10+ years of experience. They need an experience resource to hit the ground running. Looking for resources that have experience with IBM systems zOS, Assembler, SMP/E Configure SMP/E. Resource will be assisting with maintenance once a month along with security patches. Manager is okay with seeing candidates that may not have done System Programming for 2-3 years, but someone that has stayed up to date on technology. Manager is open to seeing candidates that are looking to relocate to the Chandler area. Need to have experience with communicating with IBM as far as System Software and have experience with Hardware configuration. Manager said it is a plus if they have the COBOL Skills Mainframe, IBM systems zOS, SMP/E Configure SMP/E, Assembler, COBOL Top Skills Details Mainframe, IBM systems zOS, ,SMP/E Configure, SMP/E, ,Assembler Additional Skills & Qualifications Designs, engineers, and maintains z/OS platform tools and services aligned with enterprise architecture standards, governance, and security policies Provides subject-matter expertise in z/OS infrastructure, supporting application, infrastructure, and engineering teams with technical consultation and best practices - Translates business and operational requirements into z/OS technical designs, deployment blueprints, standards, and runbooks Develops and enhances automation, scripts, and tooling to eliminate manual, repetitive tasks and improve system reliability and efficiency Creates reusable templates and playbooks to standardize system builds, configuration, deployment, and ongoing operations Evaluates and validates third party mainframe software and tools for enterprise adoption, ensuring fit-for-purpose and compliance Continuously identifies opportunities to improve system performance, resiliency, and operational processes through innovation and modernization Contributes to enterprise product and solution evaluations by defining functional and non-functional technical requirements Supports risk management, change management, and problem resolution in a regulated, high-availability enterprise environment (As applicable) Provides technical guidance, mentoring, and leadership to junior staff while promoting an inclusive, collaborative team culture Primary Skill Others Please specify Required Qualifications - Strong experience configuring, maintaining, and supporting the z/OS operating system, including installing new releases, applying maintenance, and managing PTFs, APARs, and USERMODs using System Modification Program Extended (SMP/E). Proficient in developing and maintaining system utilities, exits, and automation using REXX and Basic Assembly Language (BAL/Assembler). Demonstrated experience administering z/OS UNIX System Services (USS), including file system management, permissions, scripting, and zFS configuration and support.
