Donation Support Coordinator

ABOUT THE ROLE


Join a mission-driven team that plays a vital role in the donation process. In this position, you will work closely with hospital staff and organ procurement organizations to gather and review medical information for potential donors, coordinate with hospitals, funeral homes, and coroner's offices, and support donor-related processes with accuracy, professionalism, and compassion. You will also help guide donor families through required donation paperwork by phone, providing clear communication and support during sensitive moments.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Review incoming referrals and complete preliminary screening for potential donation in a timely, professional manner using information from hospital or coroner staff and electronic medical records.
  • Gather, interpret, and accurately document donor medical and social history in electronic systems while assessing donor eligibility in accordance with current policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Director and/or Medical Director to review medical information and support appropriate next steps.
  • Communicate donation opportunities to potential donor families and complete required authorization paperwork with the legal authorizing individual.
  • Provide ongoing support to donor families and recovery teams throughout the donation process, while delivering timely updates to funeral homes, hospital staff, coroner's offices, and other key partners.
  • Partner with organ teams to coordinate and facilitate organ, tissue, and/or eye donation processes efficiently and accurately.
  • Support internal and external customers after hours as needed to ensure continuity of service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



Education and Experience



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to type at least 41 words per minute.
  • Proficient with computers and standard office equipment.
  • Experience in a related field such as funeral services, emergency dispatch, crisis hotline support, call center operations, medical assisting, or relevant coursework in health or science is preferred.



Work Environment and Physical Requirements



  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the role with or without reasonable accommodation.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS




  • Associate degree or higher.
  • Experience in a clinical healthcare setting, tissue bank, or social work/case management environment.
  • Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) credential.
  • Demonstrated ability to:




    • Work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities.
    • Apply critical thinking skills and synthesize information from multiple sources and regulatory requirements.
    • Handle sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.




Deliver a high level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
