The
Office of the Registrar supports student success from enrollment through graduation by maintaining academic records and delivering services such as registration, classroom scheduling, enrollment verification, transcript processing, and degree conferral. We uphold academic policies and collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and alumni to promote lifelong learning.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Registrar for Academic and Graduation Records, the
Assistant Registrar, Transfer Credit has the following key responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the work of the transfer credit team, including providing leadership, determining work priorities, scheduling and assigning work, training staff, and ensuring that quality standards are met in the timely completion of work.
- Participate in the overall planning of activities within the Office of the Registrar to recommend, develop, and implement major policy and procedural changes.
- Collaborate with University administrators, academic offices, and faculty committees on matters related to transfer credit.
- Provide incoming and continuing students with clear, accurate information about transfer credit evaluation policies and procedures.
- Evaluate, assess, and process dual enrollment or other college credit prior to enrollment.
- Review and enter exam credit, including AP, IB, and A-Level exams.
- Review and analyze official coursework received from U.S. colleges and universities as well as international institutions, based on course content, to determine the transferability of coursework credit.
- Serve as the primary contact to assist with special admissions programs and degree program partnerships with other institutions regarding the transferability of courses.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge base, including job aids to document policies, technical procedures, and regulatory requirements pertinent to transfer credit.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom campus located in Washington, DC, but may require travel to the Virginia Science & Technology campus in Ashburn, VA. |
| Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, to include 1 year of supervisory experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

| Preferred Qualifications: |
- Prior experience leading work in a registrar's office or university setting, including transfer credit experience, is desired.
- Experience with Banner or a similar student information system at an institution of higher education is preferred.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills with the ability to explain complex policies to diverse audiences.
- Ability to lead change and lead people through change.
- Ability to manage and motivate a team, set clear direction, and articulate goals and expectations for excellence and success.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing community and inclusion.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, multitasking, and organizational skills with a focus on detail.
- Results-driven and adept at using data to inform decision-making, continuous improvement, and customer service.
