Salary Range: $40,000 - $46,000

Position Summary:
The Assistant Scientist, in Dr. Silvia Fossati's lab at the Alzheimer Center at Temple, provide technical support by performing scientific experiments within the research lab. The Assistant Scientist will perform experiments on cell and animal models of AD and ADRD, assist the PI and Lab personnel with Ordering, maintenance of animal colonies, behavioral studies, lab archives and general lab tasks. The AS will help maintaining Lab instruments, calendars for their use and assist the PI in setting up or continuing maintenance contracts.

Independently handle experiments or research projects requiring advanced knowledge and experience in a specific scientific area or discipline. Maintains records of data, and may be involved in training graduate and medical students in research methods and procedures.

Responsibilities include: Executing experimental protocols, maintaining records on all experiments, and maintaining equipment. Collect, and organize data using statistical software packages. Analyze research results and prepares results for presentation at meetings and conferences, research reports, manuscripts and papers. Make moderately complex decisions and resolve research problems within established protocols; require some independent judgment. Order supplies, examines instrument malfunctions, and assist in their repair. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Details:
* This is a grant funded position

Required Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree is required with two years of directly related experience in the field of molecular biology, biochemistry, primary cell cultures with focus on protein expression and gene (DNA) regulation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education:
* Masters Degree in Neuroscience or related field.

Required Skills and Abilities:
* Familiarity and experience with cell culture, transfection techniques, western blots, PCR, and cell imaging
* Working knowledge of applicable computer software and applicable professional principles
* Strong organization and record skills to record experiment results and analyze data
* Effective communication skills
