We are seeking a Code Enforcement Officer in the Daly City, CA area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to identify and document municipal code, zoning, building, housing, and property maintenance violations.
- Investigate public complaints regarding substandard structures, nuisance conditions, abandoned vehicles, overgrown vegetation, and other code violations.
- Interpret and enforce local, state, and federal regulations related to zoning, building, housing, health, and safety compliance.
- Prepare and issue violation notices, citations, warning letters, and corrective action plans; monitored compliance through follow-up inspections.
- Coordinate inspections and enforcement activities with City departments, County agencies, contractors, and legal representatives.
- Respond to customer inquiries and resolved complex code enforcement issues through in-person, telephone, and written communication.
- Conduct investigations, gathered evidence, photographed violations, and prepared detailed reports and legal documentation for enforcement proceedings.
- Manage code enforcement case files, maintained inspection records, and tracked corrective actions to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Assist with property abatement processes, including lien documentation, court preparation, and coordination with City Attorney offices.
- Monitor vacant, foreclosed, and neglected properties to ensure ongoing maintenance and compliance with municipal requirements.
- Investigate abandoned and illegally parked vehicles, issued citations, and coordinated vehicle towing and removal activities.
- Develop and deliver educational outreach programs to inform property owners, contractors, and community members about code requirements and permitting processes.
- Provide guidance to property owners, architects, engineers, and contractors regarding inspections, permits, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Conduct training sessions for staff on departmental procedures, resources, and code enforcement practices.
- Collaborate with neighborhood organizations and community groups to support beautification, improvement, and cleanup initiatives.
- Maintain professional relationships with residents, business owners, public agencies, and community stakeholders while delivering high-quality customer service.
- Respond to emergency situations requiring expedited code enforcement action and compliance inspections.
- Prepare recommendations for policy improvements and procedural updates related to inspection and enforcement activities.
- Perform related duties as assigned in support of departmental operations and community welfare objectives.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to de-escalate conflicts.
- Comfortable working in the field with frequent public contact.
- Proficient in report writing, recordkeeping, and use of mobile enforcement tools.
- Code Enforcement, Law Enforcement, or security officer or similar experience required.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate closely with colleagues on every assignment.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
