Hiring Wage/Salary Range $64,000-$65,000
Professional Experience/ Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in event planning, project management, volunteer management, alumni engagement, diversity, equity, and inclusion, student services, and/or related fields. Substantial internship and/or volunteer experience in these areas may be considered.
  • Must be able to work collegially and effectively with a diverse group of alumni, students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis
  • Experience or aptitude for measuring success and reporting on programs with quantitative and qualitative data
  • Comfort with fundraising and fundraising adjacent activities
  • Enthusiastic commitment to advancing the University's mission
  • Staffing the annual Reunion weekend is a requirement of this position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional and/or volunteer experience in educational, advocacy, non-profit and/or related organizations
  • Experience and/or familiarity with alumni engagement and/or fundraising in a higher education setting

Education
A Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are gained is required.

Department Statement
The Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement for Affinity, Identity and Regional Programs will create and implement programs and initiatives that fully embrace the identities, experiences, and backgrounds of the alumni community. Founded in 1819, Colgate is a small, highly selective residential liberal arts college for students of talent who are preparing for lives of leadership and productive citizenship. The University is currently engaged in a $1B campaign in support of the Third-Century Plan, a comprehensive roadmap that will advance Colgate's efforts to pursue its mission at the highest level and establish Colgate as one of the finest undergraduate institutions in the nation.
Accountabilities
This role is responsible for the delivery of programs and events that strengthen alumni engagement and deepen connection to Colgate. It develops and implements annual plans that increase alumni participation, expand innovative and meaningful programming, and build stronger ties among alumni, the University, and current students. Through thoughtful programming, the role enhances alumni understanding of Colgate's mission and the Third-Century Plan while fostering lifelong connection and pride.
The position advances alumni belonging by working with affinity, identity-based, and regional and international volunteers and engagement efforts. It delivers inclusive programs and communications tailored to diverse communities, maintains affinity and regional engagement portfolios, and partners closely with colleagues to support alumni connections around the world. This includes coordinating regional and international club activity, supporting Reunion engagement for affinity and regional groups, working with identity-based communities, and preparing clear, compelling messaging to maximize engagement opportunities.
Central to the role is the recruitment, management, and stewardship of alumni volunteers globally. The position is responsible for building strong volunteer networks, providing training and support, and cultivating leadership across affinity and regional communities. It collaborates cross-functionally with Annual Giving to align affinity engagement with fundraising efforts and with Communications to elevate identity-based storytelling, ensuring a cohesive and impactful alumni experience. This position, in close collaboration with the AVP for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving, also supports the Alumni of Color organization.
