DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Practice Manager in the assigned department, the Senior Vocational Nurse performs the full range of patient care activities, including but not limited to: prioritizing and assisting in patient triage processing, rooming patients, preparation and assistance with patient examinations and procedures, administering medications and injections, venipuncture, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, supporting prescription call-ins with proper authorization, providing patient education, sterilizing instruments, cleaning, stocking and maintaining exam rooms, and ensuring accurate and timely documentation. The LVN also assists with training and validation of LVN competencies and other patient care support staff, and is assigned to more complex tasks as needed.

This role requires initiative, the ability to prioritize critical demands, the ability to work in a team environment, and the ability to exercise independent judgment. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - issued by the state of California.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.

  • Must have two (2) years of relevant experience.

  • Proven LVN experience in direct patient care; skills in accurately taking and recording vital signs, height and weight; administering medication, including injections; interviewing patients; and collecting and/or testing specimens.

  • Knowledge of universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics.

  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize critical demands, exercise independent judgement and work in a team environment.

  • Demonstrable compassion and empathy towards patient care.

  • Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in a Primary Care, Internal Medicine,or Express Care setting.

  • Experience with Point of Care Testing.

  • Procedures, wound care, or IV experience.

  • General knowledge of pharmaceuticals and able to process PARs.

  • Knowledge in medical terminology and online scheduling.

  • Thorough knowledge of the normal range of values for vital signs, emergency procedures, and of basic lab and infection control procedures; standard items used to stock exam rooms.

  • Proven ability to serve as a resource and effectively lead and mentor teams.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the patient flow process to efficiently monitor appointments, patients, and available physicians.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $74,980 - $93,229 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $35.91 - $44.65

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
