UCSF Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Practice Coordinator to join our team. The primary role is to act as a financial clearance gateway, working closely with administrative, clinical, and management teams. The coordinator will support billing and authorization functions, resolve issues, and prioritize tasks to enhance patient care and revenue management. This role requires an advanced understanding of healthcare processes and excellent communication skills.
  • Secure financial clearance for patients, providers, and the health system.
  • Work closely with teams to support practice operations and customer service recovery.
  • Provide support for financial clearance functions, including authorizations, PAFRs, and billing.
  • Resolve billing-related issues in APeX (Epic) to maximize payor reimbursement.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of medical record documentation to answer billing/authorization queries.
  • Manage authorization and billing work queues to minimize denials.
  • Maintain routine clerical operations and communications.
  • Adhere to UCSF House and Telephone Standards, prioritizing patient, staff, and provider needs.
  • Work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Collaborate with faculty, management, and coworkers to ensure smooth operations.
  • High School graduate or equivalent with 4 years of related experience, or a college degree with 6 months of experience.
  • Successfully pass fingerprinting protocol and be approved for cash collection if applicable.
  • Strong computer skills, including Officetype software and patient records systems.
  • Ability to analyze, prioritize, and develop solutions independently.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to deal with a diverse range of individuals and patients sensitively.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with strong writing abilities.
  • Demonstrated administrative and office coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of medical practice terminology.
  • Prior experience in healthcare, appointment scheduling, and EPIC is preferred.

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
