HDR has an opportunity for a Transportation Engineer to work with a team of professionals in planning, designing, and supporting construction of interstates and highways, urban streets and intersections, and pedestrian/bicycle projects that make a difference in our communities. The successful candidate will work as a member of the Highways and Roads team on projects serving clients in Northern California and beyond. The position requires leading the technical design of transportation projects to support our clients while meeting the fundamental obligation to prioritize the safety, health, and welfare of the public. The position may oversee staff and is tasked with providing guidance to junior engineers and drafters during development of design. The position includes preparation of plans, detail drawings, and quantity estimation for projects of various sizes and complexities, and may also assume some project management responsibilities and client interaction. The candidate will need to be a self-motivated individual who maintains a high level of professionalism while performing engineering assignments.

In the role of Highway/Roads Engineer, we'll count on you to:
  • Serve in a technical role under the direction of a Project Manager on the engineering development of urban and rural highway/roadway projects
  • Oversee the work of CAD Designers, and possibly other EITs
  • Prepare detailed engineering designs for roadway and highway projects
  • Participate in activities ranging from site feasibility analysis to final design and through the construction phase
  • Assume some project management duties and interact with clients as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 7 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Experience with all phases of Caltrans' project development process
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Hands-on experience with Highways and Roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
  • MS Office knowledge
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $87,780.00 - $142,500.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
