Health Educator

Compensation: $25.82/hour - $27.47/hour

Position Summary

The P² Project (The Pregnancy Prevention Project) at Children's Aid aims to reduce and prevent the incidence of unintended adolescent pregnancy in its priority areas in NYC by providing young people with the holistic tools to meet their greatest potentials through evidence-based sexuality education, comprehensive reproductive health services, and peer health education. The main objectives of the program are:

1. Provide comprehensive, age appropriate, sexuality health education for adolescents (11 - 22).
2. Provide strategies for young people to make healthy decisions and set goals for the future.
3. Connect youth to reproductive health services.
4. Encourage youth/adult partnerships and effective communication.
5. Create and foster community and organizational partnerships to reduce the incidence of unintended adolescent pregnancy in our communities.

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the CAPP Program Health Educator works to meet the objectives described above by providing outreach and sexual health education and outreach to children, adolescents, and adults in Staten Island and the Bronx.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Health Education & Community Outreach

• Conduct evidence-based health education sessions and groups for youth and parents at Children's Aid, Department of Education (DOE), and other community-based organization (CBO) program sites.
• Develop and implement health education workshops and presentations to support community outreach initiatives, as directed.
• Participate in the development, evaluation, selection, and maintenance of written and audiovisual health education materials to support program goals.
• Attend trainings provided by Children's Aid and external organizations to maintain and enhance the knowledge and skills required for the role.

Individual Counseling & Client Services

• Provide individual counseling to youth on topics including sexual decision-making, growth and development, pregnancy prevention, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and HIV pre- and post-test counseling in Children's Aid community schools, youth centers, and other school- and community-based settings.
• Coordinate and facilitate referrals for family planning services through Children's Aid Health Centers and provide transportation assistance when appropriate.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to support the delivery of high-quality, coordinated client care.

Program Support & Administration

• Assist the Program Coordinator and Senior Health Educator in supporting the Just Ask Me (JAM) Peer Health Educators program and related activities.
• Document all health education groups, workshops, and individual counseling services in accordance with program requirements.
• Maintain accurate records and complete required statistical reports to support program planning, evaluation, and reporting.
• Comply with all applicable privacy and confidentiality requirements, including HIPAA and organizational policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Community Health Education, Public Health, or related discipline or at least two years' experience in sexual health education required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Experience working with adolescents a plus.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
