Creative Arts Therapist (Music Therapist)

HJF is seeking a Creative Arts Therapist (Music Therapist) to support the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Creative Forces located at the Ocala West VA Clinic, Ocala, FLA. The Creative Arts Therapists will develop, implement, and evaluate creative arts therapies program for patients. 50% of the time will be spent on clinical program activities (on site at the Ocala VA) and 50% of the time working on a Community Arts Connection Pilot project (Largely work from home/telework). Fosters positive and professional interpersonal relationships with patients/families, physicians, hospital staff, community representatives and visitors. Effectively uses interpersonal communication skills to promote a healing environment.

The mission of the Creative Forces Network is to improve the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of trauma-exposed military service members and veterans, as well as their families and caregivers, by increasing knowledge of and access to clinical creative arts therapies and community arts engagement.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

• Works with patients, families, and staff to understand the needs of the patient population from a creative therapy perspective. Meets individual patients and parents/guardians to explain art therapy program. Assesses individual and/or group needs, identifies goals based on assessment, and develops plan as appropriate
• Participates in developing appropriate documentation standards to reflect art therapy assessments and interventions. Documents interventions in patient medical records according to standards developed for art therapy documentation
• Participates in developing materials to explain and promote the program.
• Participates in designing measure to evaluate effectiveness of the program.
• Obtains and maintains an age-appropriate and safe selection and quantity of art supplies, equipment, and other materials for the program
• Participates as active member of support programs to integrate creative therapy programs with other psychosocial services.
• Collaborates with relevant departmental and hospital staff to address patient or systemic problems that arise.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited music therapy program. A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience.
• Experience working with military connected patients exposed to trauma, or similar populations preferred.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to relate to diverse patient populations.
• Sensitivity to individuals from varied backgrounds and cultures.
• Competency with age-specific needs from childhood through young adulthood.
• Strong administrative skills.
• This position requires that you obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

• Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.

Licenses and Certifications

• Keep all certifications current to include Basic Life Support, HIPAA, and any other certifications required by the facility.
• Maintain Board Certification (MT-BC) through continuing education as required by the certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
• Comply with clinical site Substance Abuse Testing Program requirements.

Work Environment

• 50% of the time will be spent on clinical program activities (on site at the Ocala VA) and 50% of the time working on a Community Arts Connection Pilot project (Largely work from home/telework).

Compensation

• The annual salary range for this position is $61,000-$85,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
